Anti-fracking protesters clash with police at drilling site near Manchester. The FDA, which first proposed a ban in 1977, has told pharmaceutical companies that manufacture medically important antibiotics given to animals to voluntarily withdraw them from use as growth promoters. The manufacturers have three years to change labels on the antibiotics and other antimicrobials to state that they can only be given to animals for veterinary reasons, and prescribed by a vet.

US to phase out antibiotics for fattening livestock

The practice of feeding antibiotics to healthy farm animals to fatten them up is being phased out in the US, a move that should help quell antibiotic resistance. However, the Food and Drug Administration has been criticised for failing to make the move compulsory. Antibiotic-resistant microbes are thought to kill 23,000 Americans each year and infect 2 million. In the US, 80 per cent of the antibiotics are given to farm animals. Since resistance develops when microbes are repeatedly exposed to antibiotics, giving them to healthy animals exacerbates the problem.

Historic Snowfall in The Middle East

By: Tom Gardner, 12/13/2013

Icy blast: The Western Wall compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, Israel, today was covered with snow as temperatures plunge below zero

It's a festive scene that's adorned countless Christmas cards... and, for once, the Holy Land actually became a snow covered winter scene. The ancient city of Jerusalem, which normally basks in fierce heat, was dusted with a light covering of snow during a freak blizzard. And snow fell on the streets of Egypt for the first time in 112 years as one of the worst winter storms to hit the Middle East in living memory set in. The rare sight of pristine white precipitation greeted stunned residents of Cairo this morning who took to social media to express their shock at the unsettling weather in the usually sweltering capital.

Northeast Snow Storm Piles On

AP, By: Mark Scolforo, 12/15/2013

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — At this rate, the Northeast will be tired of winter before winter even arrives. Another shot of wintry weather moved through Ohio and Pennsylvania on Saturday as it headed into New England, hampering travel by car and airplane and complicating shoppers' plans less than two weeks before Christmas. Nearly a foot of snow was reported in parts of central Pennsylvania late Saturday as the sprawling storm moved into New England, where the National Weather Service warned Maine could see near-blizzard conditions Sunday due to heavy snow and strong winds before the storm moves out.

The Selling of Attention Deficit Disorder

Silver's picture

The Huffington Post, By: Roque Planas, 12/14/2013

After more than 50 years leading the fight to legitimize attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Keith Conners could be celebrating. Severely hyperactive and impulsive children, once shunned as bad seeds, are now recognized as having a real neurological problem. Doctors and parents have largely accepted drugs like Adderall and Concerta to temper the traits of classic A.D.H.D., helping youngsters succeed in school and beyond.

But Dr. Conners did not feel triumphant this fall as he addressed a group of fellow A.D.H.D. specialists in Washington. He noted that recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that the diagnosis had been made in 15 percent of high school-age children, and that the number of children on medication for the disorder had soared to 3.5 million from 600,000 in 1990. He questioned the rising rates of diagnosis and called them “a national disaster of dangerous proportions.”

Natural News, By: Jonathan Benson, 12/13/2013

(NaturalNews) Despite its relentless attempts, the corrupt Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has once again failed to maliciously destroy the business of dairy farmer Mike Hartmann, who freely exercises his right to sell raw milk and raw milk products directly from his farm in Gibbon. The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) reports that Sibley County District Court Judge Erica H. McDonald recently dismissed five of six phony criminal charges brought by the state earlier this year against Hartmann, who has been a target of the state for several years.

City of Dallas effectively bans fracking

By: RT.com, 12/13/2013

The Dallas City Council passed Wednesday new restrictions that bar hydraulic fracturing within 1,500 feet of a home, school, church, and other protected areas. The new rules effectively ban the practice within the city. The council approved the ordinance in a vote of 9-6, with Mayor Mike Rawlings voting for it. The city is on the edge of the Barnett Shale area, predicted to be a treasure trove of onshore natural gas reserves. However, the new limit placed on hydraulic fracturing - known as fracking - effectively bans the practice.

Geminid Sky Shower Strikes This Weekend

Silver's picture

National Geographic, By: Andrew Fazekas, 12/13/2013

As darkness falls this weekend, look toward the heavens for a gem of a sky show from one of the year’s best meteor showers, peaking overnight on December 13 and 14. The annual Geminid meteor shower promises colorful shooting stars and fireballs–but with the moon in the way this year, it’s all a matter of timing, say astronomers. “The moon is a waxing gibbous around peak and will tend to wash out the fainter objects, but still, the Geminids are one of the top showers, so we can expect a pretty good show,” said Geza Gyuk, astronomer at Adler Planetarium in Chicago. All in the fullest of bloom!

Aisha North ~ The Manuscript of Survival – part 379

Silver's picture

By: Aisha North, 12/14/2013

As you have perhaps already ascertained, these incoming waves of energetic flux can be rather bothersome at times. That is, your physical body may have a hard time keeping up with all of these fluctuations, but again, we implore you to remember that they are all in fact doing you a world of good. And we do mean that in every sense of the word. For these waves are pushing you further and further ahead, as the changes they bring within you are preparing you more and more for that upcoming energetic implosion, if we can use such a word. For this will in many ways be likened to an implosion, where the pressure from the outside will create an impressive effect on the inside. And then, you will all start to unfold yourself and go up in bloom. For the seed that was implanted within you from the very beginning, and that has been lying dormant for eons, has been carefully watered and nurtured these last few years. And as such, it is now more than ready to take that decisive leap and burst forth in all of its glory.
