Monsanto Protests Scheduled in 36 Countries

An international protest planned for later this month against biotechnology company Monsanto is slated to span six continents and include demonstrations in dozens of countries around the globe.

Amid growing concerns over St. Louis, Missouri-based Monsanto and the impact the company is having on agriculture, activists have planned rallies for later this month in 36 countries.

A Guatemalan court has convicted former military leader Efrain Rios Montt on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, sentencing him to 80 years in prison.

A three-judge tribunal on Friday issued the verdict after the nearly two-month trial in which dozens of victims testified about horrific atrocities.

Prosecutors said Rios Montt must have had knowledge of the massacres of Ixil, indigenous people of Mayan descent living in Guatemala, when he ruled the country from March 1982 to August 1983 at the height of its 36-year civil war.

After months of plummeting temperatures, winter storms, and climatic anomalies, it's easy to say Americans are fed up with 2012/2013's brutal winter. But according to a new study released by Yale University, that mindset may extend well beyond the realm of thick winter coats and into attitudes about global warming.

Researchers found that the percentage of Americans who believe global warming is happening dropped seven percentage points since Fall 2012, to 63%. The study concludes that this attitude shift is due in large part to personal experience relating to winter 2012/2013.
