A decent amount of action characterizes the transits this week, including Sun moving into Uranus’ sign, Aquarius, on January 20. Venus will conjunct the Galactic Center on January 21; relationships embody the influence of the wonder, immensity, and expansion of the entire galaxy for a brief time. The potentially truculent Mars in Scorpio helps to form a rare watery grand trine with Neptune and Kronos (Transneptunian) on January 18 and 19. Acting on imagination can lead to new heights, in terms of status or achievement in one’s niche. Likewise, those in authority (perhaps spiritual authority), or those showing decisive leadership, might serve to inspire others to forge ahead to obtain what they desire – the powerful grand trine exerts its energies influentially in mid-week.

The earth element continues to dominate the transits this week. Ademtos (Transneptunian), Virgo Moon, and Mercury in Capricorn form a grand earth trine on New Year’s Eve. The trio is in the ingress chart for the 2016 chart in some parts of the world (New York and the United States East Coast has this configuration within orb at the stroke of midnight on January 1). That is one rock solid, albeit ephemeral, grand trine! Naturally, many useful themes arise as attention to taking on the New Year approaches. Both emotion and thought, already manifesting in an earthy manner via Moon and Mercury, have a solid base to operate from, provided by Admetos. Instinctively using communication to build enduring structures, using ideas persistently to fill emotional needs, and focusing on gathering practical information to meet security needs are all relevant themes to approach the challenges of 2016. The past should not be overlooked as an important factor, as Admetos and Moon (and to some extent Mercury) very much have an orientation towards the past.

The grinding feel to the transits is still in the ether. The tense patterns are in a winding down stage this week, however, with the exact square from Saturn to Neptune diminishing, and Mars moving forward in Libra starting to disconnect him from Uranus and Pluto. Tough themes based on the five planets forming hard aspects hold. Saturn’s limits and form struggle with Neptune’s lack of boundaries and vague impressions. Uranus in retrograde and connected to Mars by virtue of an opposition to Mars and residence in Mars’ sign, has quite a battle on his hands with Mars and his overlord, Pluto, pressuring him. Powerful passion clashes with innovation and revolution. Those who manage to successfully ride the waves of the transits this week can take advantage of the creativity, structure, energy, innovation, and raw power that is available, but it will also take a decent amount of effort!

Tension dominates the feel of the transits this week. The transits certainly exude a vibe of “when the going gets tough, the tough get going!” Nonetheless, Jupiter and Venus have their say among the tense energies. Jupiter receives attention due to the powerful Sun transiting through his sign this month, and Venus remains elegant, social, and graceful in late Libra, her home sign.

The fiery, brash, aggressive Mars receives a tough workout of his own this week. He starts the week with aspects to seven other planets, while he struggles to find a place in the sign opposite of his dominion, Aries. Using personal energy to acclimate to group efforts and the demands of partnerships can lead to meaningful, lasting change this week, if enough effort and will can be mustered to do so. Disciplined thinking is also helpful in determining how to best apply efforts, particularly in the first half of the week.

Mercury precedes Sun in entering the Sagittarius sign this week. Of great interest, Mercury and Jupiter start forming a mutual reception (reside in each other’s signs) on November 20, and both planets are relatively weak by sign. While compensating for the two planets manifesting in signs far from their homes requires extra consideration, rich opportunities present themselves for using themes generated by Mercury and Jupiter: “uplifting communication”, “expanding commerce through networking”, and “abundance through using logic” are several possibilities with Mercury and Jupiter playing ping-pong back and forth this week. Sun makes a grand entrance into Jupiter’s sign on November 22. The depth, intensity, and transformation of the previous sign, Scorpio, serves as a valuable experience for embracing the higher ideals and journeys of the expansive Jupiter.
