This Elementary School Banned Homework And The Results Were Amazing

by Brianna Acuesta, True Activist

When Mark Trifilio, Principal of the public pre-K-5th grade Orchard School in Vermont, took a good look at his students and the way they were learning, he realized that the inconsistencies with assigning homework might be hindering students rather than helping them. Since different teachers in the same grade often have separate lesson plans and homework goals, the children were being unfairly subjected to varying homework loads that weighed them down.

After considering the issue for quite some time, and taking a look at some studies that suggested that homework might not be necessary, he decided to take it up with the school’s 40 educators at a meeting prior to the beginning of the school year. He put the decision up for a vote and was astonished at the response: all 40 unanimously voted in favor of doing away with homework.

Awesome Invention Allows You To Bake Edible Spoons To Reduce Plastic Waste

by Amanda Froelich, True Activist

A neat invention allows one to bake a set of four flavored spoons in just three to four minutes.

Because it’s so easy to use single-waste plastic, such as cutlery, plates, and cups, one rarely thinks twice before tossing the materials into the trash. It’s because of this, however, that the world is becoming increasingly burdened by plastic pollution.

According to statistics compiled by The World Counts, humanity’s wasteful habits are already wreaking havoc on the environment. In the North Pacific Ocean, for example, there is 6x more plastic debris than plankton. Additionally, 90% of the trash that floats in the oceans is made up of plastic (equating to 46,000 pieces per square mile). As materials composed of plastic slowly break down, they release toxins into the environment. The trash is also oftentimes ingested by animals and in some cases, traps innocent creatures such as turtles and fish.

China Is Building The World’s First Migratory ‘Bird Airport’

by Amanda Froelich, True Activist

The avian airport will offer sanctuary to the more than 50 million birds who journey along the East Asian-Australian Flyway each year.

While most modern architecture encroaches on wildlife habitats, the world’s first migratory ‘bird airport’ – to be built in Lingang, China – will do the exact opposite. Designed by McGregor Coxall, the wetland bird airport is to be constructed where a landfill is presently situated and will offer sanctuary to more than 50 million birds each year as they journey from the Antarctic along the East Asian-Australian Flyway (EAAF).

Reportedly, 1 in 5 globally endangered waterbirds presently uses the EAAF, and coastal urbanization continues to make the route increasingly dangerous. It’s for this reason that the Port of Tianjin sent out a call for international designers to design a wetland sanctuary for the migration birds. McGregor Coxall was one of many architecture firms who responded.

by Whitney Webb, True Activist

WikiLeaks has published more than 8,000 CIA documents as part of "Vault 7", a series of leaks on the agency originating from the CIA's Center For Cyber Intelligence in Langley, VA.

After hinting for months about its forthcoming releases, Wikileaks has once again delivered, publishing its first batch of leaks on the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. The leaks, code-named “Vault 7”, is – according to Wikileaks – the largest ever publication of confidential documents on the agency, with just this first release comprising 8,761 documents. The documents are said to have originated from within the CIA’s Center for Cyber Intelligence located in Langley, Virginia.

The first “Vault 7” release focuses on the CIA’s “global covert hacking program” which includes its “weaponized exploits” of common technology products such as “Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones.” It has also been revealed that the CIA has the capability to bypass the encryption on applications such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Wiebo, Confide, and Cloackman by hacking the phones on which the applications are installed and collecting its message traffic before encryption is applied.

Monsanto Has Lost $11 Million As Indian Cotton Farmers Begin To Use Indigenous Seed

by Jessica Murray, True Activist

After illegally pushing a form of Bt cotton into India and Africa over 10 years ago, agrochemical company Monsanto is now losing millions of dollars due to farmers now planting their own indigenous seed. In the past, Monsanto has been accused of writing laws and breaking them in order to enter the Indian market. However, the company has now begun paying heavily for their misdeeds, following more than 300,000 farmer deaths between 1995 and 2013, many of which were attributed to Monsanto. Farmer suicides throughout Maharashtra, which is considered to be the ‘Cotton Belt’ in India, have also been linked to the greed of the corporation, according to reports.

This Company Just Made A 3D-Printed Home In 24 Hours For $10K

by Amanda Froelich, True Activist

There’s no doubt about it, this technology is a game-changer.

The housing industry is about to be revolutionized. This is because the company Apis Cor recently made a 400 square ft. (or 37 square meter) 3D-printed home in just 24 hours. And, believe it or not, the structure cost less than $11,000 to build.

The company, which has specialists based in Russia and San Francisco, claims to have completed the entire home in just one day – including the painting, as a mobile printer was on site in Russia.

ZeroHedge reports that the main components of the house, including the walls, partitions, and building envelopes are made of a concrete mixture. The windows and furnishings were later added on, as was a shiny coat of paint on the exterior of the house.

Whereas most houses take months to construct, this home was built in just one day. And, it cost an affordable $10,134 to build.

Two Studies Conclude 347 Native Bee Species Are Headed For Extinction

by Jessica Murray, True Activist

A recent analysis has revealed that 347 bee species that are native to North America and Hawaii are “spiraling towards extinction”, according to reports. A total of 700 bee species are currently facing major threats, which include an increase in pesticide use, together with severe habitat loss. In “Pollinators in Peril: A systematic status review of North American and Hawaiian native bees,” the Center for Biological Diversity studied a total of 4,337 native species in order to assess how the vital pollinators are enduring worsening, multi-fronted threats. Kelsey Kopec, pollinator researcher at the Center for Biological Diversity and author of the study, told EcoWatch,

Congresswoman Proposes Unthinkable Solution To Refugee Crisis: "Stop Arming Terrorists"

By: Matt Agorist / The Free Thought Project

US Representative Tulsi Gabbard is proving to be quite the thorn in the side of the establishment warmongers. In January, Gabbard went on a secret trip to Syria to investigate first hand and to find the truth that the corporate media is covering up about the Syrian war. Since then, this brave congresswoman has remained steadfast in her mission to show Americans how their tax dollars are funding terrorism in the Middle East.

In a press conference this week, Gabbard called on President Trump to “end the regime change in Syria,” adding that this is what is causing the refugee crisis.

“The most important question is, how do we address the cause of these people fleeing their homes,” Gabbard stated before pointing to a bill that she’s submitted to Congress this year that would help in solving this problem.

The bill’s premise to stop the refugee crisis is quite simple — stop arming the terrorists.

“Stop Arming Terrorists Act,” or HR 608, would ban the use of US taxpayers’ funds to aid terrorist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda or Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
