WASHINGTON -- White House regulatory czar Cass Sunstein is stepping down after failing to advance federal health and safety rules nearly as much as Obama supporters had hoped, while also failing in his attempt to win over powerful corporate interests by offering to roll back regulations they disliked.

A Qatari official who has recently defected to Venezuela says his country is fully aware that armed groups cannot topple the Syrian government, but it is helping them because Israel has tasked Doha with provoking violence in pro-Palestine countries.

The official says Israel has ordered Qatar to incite unrest in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, which is a part of the US Middle East policy.

Scores of Paez Indians have kicked Colombian soldiers out of an outpost as part of a push to expel both security forces and leftist rebels from indigenous reserves in the southwestern province of Cauca.

General Jorge Humberto Jerez, the top military officer in Cauca, said the indigenous people attacked the soldiers, punching and kicking them, Fox News Latino reported on Tuesday.

Indigenous leaders in the Cauca capital Toribio have called for a gathering to reiterate their call for the military and guerrillas to leave the area in the hope of bringing peace to the restive region.

The Association of Indigenous Governments of North Cauca, or ACIN, had set a deadline of midnight Monday for all "armed actors" to vacate the 14 Indian reserves in the region. Read More

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lost a key coalition partner in a row over conscription for seminary students.

The centrist Kadima party, which has 28 MPs, decided to pull out of Netanyahu’s coalition government on Tuesday after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on an alternative to the Tal Law, Xinhua reported.

"It is with deep regret that I say that there is no choice but to decide to leave the government," Kadima party leader Shaul Mofaz said on Tuesday.

Under the disputed law, which Mofaz called unconstitutional, ultra-Orthodox Jews are exempt from military or community service as long as they are engaged in full-time religious studies. An alternative to the law must be passed by the end of this month as it is due to expire on August 1. Read More

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi delivers a speech during the International Scientific Conference on the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran, Iran, July 17, 2012.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called for structural changes to the global system through convergence among the world’s independent nations.

Speaking at a Tuesday conference on the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the Iranian capital city, Tehran, Salehi pointed to “joint global management,” as the NAM’s major motto, IRNA reported.

“Now it is the time to seize the global management from certain powers and, to do that, it is necessary to make a basic revision in the global management system,” he added.

The Iranian minister praised the ample potentials of the NAM member states and argued that such capabilities should be exploited for the establishment of justice among the world nations and settlement of international disputes.

“By studying global developments, particularly over the past decade and after the regional and world wars during that period, we realize that all the world’s problems are caused by lack of spirituality and attention of the rulers and powers to materialistic issues,” Salehi added. Read More

Deutsche Postbank AG ATMS not working in Germany? Banks in Europe shutting down due to glitches or are they Bank Holidays?

"I got word from a financial expert that the Deutsche Post Bank ATMs in Germany are not working this weekend.

I have not been able to confirm this from another source as of yet.

Considering that RBS is saying their glitches won't be fixed until July 31st and now  Russia's largest bank Sberbank is stopping all credit and debit card transactions.  Then there is BNI who are saying they will not reopen until July 31st.  Something big is happening with the banks shutting down." ‘US anti-terrorism policy violates human rights’ – Jimmy Carter - RT.com

Former US president Jimmy Carter has criticized America’s actions against terrorism, saying that drones attacks and targeted assassination of suspicious people are undermining America’s “role as the global champion of human rights.”

In his critical article "A Cruel and Unusual Record" published in the New York Times, Jimmy Carter said that with all the revolutions sweeping around the world, America should “make the world safer.” Instead, however, “America’s violation of international human rights abets our enemies and alienates our friends,” he argues.

US’s government counterterrorism policies, Carter says, are now clearly violating at least 10 of the 30 articles written in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“Revelations that top officials are targeting people to be assassinated abroad, including American citizens, are only the most recent, disturbing proof of how far our nation’s violation of human rights has extended,” Carter writes. Read More...

Greece’s symbolic one-day old parliament has been dissolved in order to make way for the country’s repeat elections, which are scheduled to be held next month.

On Thursday, in a symbolic move, the 300 lawmakers elected in May 6th elections, were sworn in for only one day.

Inauguration of the one-day parliament was followed by appointment of a caretaker government, led by a senior judge.
