[Watch] John Oliver Purchases $15 Million In Medical Debt And Forgives It On TV

by Amanda Froelich, True Activist

The host of Last Week Tonight and his team set out to expose the shady practices of debt collectors and ended up forgiving 9,000 peoples’ medical expenses in the process.

Recently, on a segment of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the host and his team exposed the shady practices of debt collectors and, in the process, ended up protecting 9,000 people from annoying, harassing - and even illegal - agency calls and letters.

Oliver first began by explaining that companies are willing to sell old, uncollected debts for next to nothing. This is because the debt is actually expired and, in effect, people are no longer required by law to pay it. Debt collectors know that and pursue it anyways, because when a debtor makes a payment, all their debt is back on the table.

It’s a dirty business, which is why the television host did what he does best: he exposed it in humorous - and mind-blowing - fashion.

5 Unexpected Ways the Inflated Ego Enslaves, Dominates, and Fools You

by Altheia Luna, Lonerwolf.com

One of the simplest truths of life is this: The bigger your ego is, the bigger your problems are.

In fact, the size of your ego directly correlates to the size of your struggles and burdens in life. So take a moment to reflect on your current life: how much are you suffering? If your answer is “WAY too much,” don’t worry, most of us feel the same way. Why? Because we haven’t learned to distinguish the voice of the ego from the voice of the Soul.

Sol and I sent out an email the other night asking you guys to share with us some of the most vital problems and topics of interest you have right now. The subject of the inflated ego came up so often that we just had to write about it today. ;)

Do You Have an Inflated Ego?

Ironically we cringe at this question so much that it instantly makes us go into denial mode. “NO … I have quite a normal ego thank you,” we are prone to think. Then, we might proceed to hunt for a person in our lives that we can feel angry and self-righteous towards, and start ruminating on how much we detest their inflated ego.

Funny don’t you think?

The ego denies the existence of the ego, and the ego likes to find someone else to blame, which is precisely why we continue ending up in the same depressing emotional ruts over and over again. When we refuse to acknowledge the extent to which our ego runs our lives, we fail to ever authentically grow or find deep peace in life.

The Psychology Of Control Freaks

by Gregg Prescott, M.S.

Editor, In5D.com

Why do people feel the need to control others and what lessons can we learn from both sides of this dilemma?

Controlling people generally fall into the Type A personality classification. These people are controlling, very competitive, self-critical, experience a constant sense of urgency, can be easily aroused to the point of anger, thrive on attention, and are generally extroverts.

Type B personalities are generally laid bad, relaxed, easy going, reclusive, and are generally introverts.

We’ve all known that Type A controlling personality at some point in our lives. For me, my mother fits into this category. Despite her controlling ways, I love her with all of my heart. I know that ultimately, she only wants the best for her children. At a young age, my mother lost her mother to cancer, so she really didn’t have a role model to guide her. She became “the woman of the house” for my grandfather, who expected my mother to cook, clean, and do all of the household chores. My grandfather’s expectations of my mother are most likely the reason why she’s a Type A personality.

Empirical Evidence: Researchers Finally Confirm There Is Life After Death

by Amando Flavio, AnonHQ

The mystery of death is not to be told. It is something to be experienced. We all know one thing for sure: we are all going to die one day. And when we do die, we may not get the opportunity to come back and explain our experience.

Many religions believe in life after death. It is said the soul goes out of the body to live a new life in the spiritual realm. A wicked person is sent to hell to be tormented by a blazing fire, while a righteous person is sent to heaven to live an eternal and joyful life.

However, scientists believe that this religious interpretation of death is just a mythology. Some researchers have therefore devoted themselves to unravelling this mystery. The starting point: establish that there is some sort of life after death.

At the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, researchers have confirmed in a new study that there is indeed life after death. The study has been published in the online journal Resuscitation.

This Man Turned A Dying River Into A Region Teeming With Life

by Brianna Blaschke, True Activist

Frustrated with his local government's disregard of a sacred river, one determined man restored their dumping ground back to its original beauty.

Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal had had enough. In 2000, he decided it was time to clean up the Kali Bein River in the sacred region of the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. This region had been used for centuries as a dumping ground for human waste and garbage, with local governments paying no heed to the sacredness of this Sikh waterway.

Seechewal’s attempt to convince the government to discontinue all waste dumping into the river fell on deaf ears, as they refused to make any legislation that would suit his convictions; he responded by summoning the Sikh tradition of free voluntary service, called kar sewa.

Documentary Reveals Majority Of People In The World Want To Live In Peace And Harmony [Video]

by Amando Flavio, AnonHQ

Various governments and international agencies claim to be working to make life comfortable for people around the world.

Since the creation of the United Nations, world leaders meet annually to discuss the well-being of the citizens of the world. Some critics believe that this annual meeting is not bringing about any change because the priorities of the world have been misplaced by leaders.

In an attempt to show what is really happening on the ground and what citizens of the world really want for themselves, a group of people have taken the trouble to do the little they can to clarify the global picture for us.

One such concerned citizen of the world, is French born Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Mr Arthus is a well-known and incredible photographer, journalist, and reporter. He is also an environmentalist and a humanist.

To help us better understand the people of the world, Arthus has used his talent to put together a documentary film, titled Human, to show us what we do not see.
