WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich [3]announced today that he is forming a new political action committee called Kucinich Action [4], describing it as the "next step in a movement that has empowered hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens to take action" during Kucinich's political career.
"Kucinich Action is a natural evolution of what our movement has been doing: standing up, speaking out, acting on our beliefs, and leading to change the outcome on behalf of the people," Kucinich said in a press release that announced the PAC's formation.
He said Kucinich Action will build a grassroots movement to empower individuals to engage within the political process. Columbus attorney Don McTigue will serve as the PAC's treasurer.
"If there's one thing Dennis is known for, it's changing the outcome," McTigue said in a release. "Whether it is saving a municipal electric system, community hospitals, a steel mill, parks, fire stations, municipal services, transportation services or libraries, Kucinich has a proven ability to organize to create positive outcomes that others have deemed impossible.
"This new organization will empower others to take charge and change the outcome through organization and meaningful engagement with the political process."
Kucinich, a former Cleveland mayor who mounted two long-shot White House bids, will retire from Congress next year after losing a primary race to Toledo's Rep. Marcy Kaptur. The Democrats were put into the same district under a GOP-drawn remap that eliminated two of Ohio's current 18 congressional seats because the state's population growth has lagged behind other parts of the country.
