A group of fashion designers, writers, and visual artists meet almost every week in Mexico City [3] to create posters, costumes, and performances. Once they figure out a “visual concept,” their art creations walk alongside thousands of protesters [3] against the winning presidential candidate, Enrique Peña Nieto [4], of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). [5]
“Protests are festive and chaotic moments,” explains graphic artist Cristina Paoli [6] who belongs to the movement Arte por la Izquierda [7] (Art for the Left). “In my opinion, it is always useful to create a visual concept to help outsiders understand the agenda and voices of the protesters.”
