Lemon Balm

Lemon balm, a pleasantly odiferous herb native to Europe, has traditionally been used by herbalists to treat insomnia and pain, states the University of Michigan Health System. Lemon balm's flavonoids and phenolic acids are two active constituents believed to help it fight herpes. The Health System notes that topical lemon balm is well-supported by research for treatment of cold sores; however, there's less evidence to support it for use on genital herpes sores.
