Some volcanoes 'scream' at ever-higher pitches before they erupt, scientists claim

New research has discovered that volcanoes can sometimes 'scream' at ever-higher pitches just before they erupt.

Scientists at the University of Washington analysed an eruption sequence at Alaska's Redoubt Volcano and found what they describe as audible 'screams' that followed seismic activity as the changed from steady pulses to rapid tremors.

The researchers also believe that this research and the rise in the frequency of earthquakes and the tremors they cause in the ground could be used to predict future volcanic eruptions.

The study said that it is not unusual for swarms of small earthquakes to precede a volcanic eruption.

They can reach a point of such rapid succession that they create a signal called a 'harmonic tremor' that is inaudible to humans as it is such a low frequency.

Every July, the other Boys of Summer—rich and powerful movers and shakers from around the world—gather in the woods at Bohemian Grove in California for two weeks of fun, frolic and social networking.

Members of the all-male, mostly white San Francisco-based Bohemian Club and their guests fly into Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport on private jets to partake in the festivities, which include music, plays, pageantry and networking with other global elites at elaborate campsites in Monte Rio along the Russian River in Northern California. Another milestone occurred off the MSM whiteboards last week when two foreign governments formally agreed to collaborate on UFO/UAP research. Representatives from GEIPAN and CEFAA, the agencies charged with collecting UFO data for France and Chile, respectively, met for the first time at a conference in Greensboro, N.C., last month and discovered a wealth of common ground in their approach to the phenomena.

It's tempting to think the new French-Chilean connection could trigger a candid and overdue conversation in this country about bringing serious resources to bear on an enduring mystery that might well reap windfall payoffs for science. But at least two countries aren't waiting around to find out.

At least 295 people have been confirmed dead or missing after rainstorms and Typhoon Soulik hit China, causing floods, landslides and buildings to collapse, the government said on Monday.

Torrential rains have battered the southwestern province of Sichuan since July 7 and have led to 68 deaths, with another 179 people missing, the ministry of civil affairs said in a statement.

Another 41 deaths and two missing were reported from other parts of the country due to heavy downpours and mountain torrents, according to the ministry.

A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Antarctica on Monday, generating large waves but causing no injuries, seismic experts at Argentina’s Orcadas base in Antarctica said. “At 1103 local time (1403 GMT) on Monday, the seismological station … registered an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale in the area near the base, with an epicenter 10 kilometers (six miles) deep,” Argentina’s Antarctic management said in a statement.
