In South America, many villages are located at the base of a mountain near an acequia, or waterway runoff. Every year as summer begins, villagers scramble up the mountain to clear the pathway of any rocks, branches or animal nests. Then, as the mountain god calls to the sun god for warmth, the frozen water at the top can slowly thaw and flow down unimpeded to nourish the landscape and the people.
At today’s Summer Solstice (June 20, 10:04 p.m. PDT), we, too, are called to clear away any debris blocking the pathway so that divine inspiration and healing can flow down to cleanse and nourish us.
As the Sun moves into the deeply feminine sign of Cancer, we enter a potent healing period that attunes us to the Mother—our feelings, needs, connection to nature and one another.
The Solstice also coincides with Venus tightly conjunct Mercury in Cancer, helping us give voice to our feelings and desires.
And, Mercury is stationary now (extra strong) as it prepares to go backward on June 26th for three weeks. This upcoming retrograde loop in watery Cancer turns our attention to buried feelings, needs, memories and family dynamics so that we can heal and release them.
The June 23 Capricorn Full Moon (4:32 a.m. PDT) adds further impact to the Solstice portal. This powerful Super Moon (with the Moon in its closest approach to the Earth) illuminates the “parental axis” of Cancer and Capricorn, further shedding light on old family patterns and ways in which we may have suppressed our feelings and needs.
