Big Story Weather from May 1: Three big stories from yesterday. First, the severe weather along the Gulf Coast where rainfall rates were around 3-12 inches in South Mississippi. Along with that multiple water spouts were spotted. The second story was the wintery weather with places from Denver to Minneapolis seen over 6 inches of snowfall. The third was the onset of cold air, frost and freeze conditions that headed into the Southern Plains.

Big Story Weather Discussion for May 2: The blocking high pressure will push off the East Coast just off our map above. However, it will have a huge impact on the weather again today. Look for the low pressure to move into Southern Illinois and the cold front extending to the Texas Coast. Along this front we will see rain, thunderstorms and severe weather. The second feature will be the upper level low over the Gulf Coast which will be the site of another day of heavy rainfall and water spouts. Behind the cold front a band of snow will setup from the Texas Panhandle into the Western Great Lakes. High pressure over the Rockies will bring the push of well-below normal temperatures to the region.
