Greek police prepare a huge security operation involving 7,000 officers, water cannons and a helicopter to protect German chancellor Angela Merkel during her visit to Athens today.

14.23 Mrs Merkel says that Greece's progress on reform has accelerated, though she stresses that she is not visiting the country to preach or award grades.
14.18 The crisis will not be solved with the beat of a drum, says Mrs Merkel, and nothing will happen overnight.
But she is "deeply convinced" that tough medicine is the best medicine. The tough path Greece is on will pay off, she adds.
