Standing Rock Sioux Tribe,

My name is Holly Irene Cardoza, and I am a resident of Mount Shasta, California. This is my Letter of Support to you, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who are standing in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline, as it threatens your way of life, your water, people, and land. I am firmly resolved that the installation of the Dakota Access Pipeline equates to committing genocide to not only your people, but to ALL the people that live near or around its proposed location, as well as an environmental disaster of massive proportions. There are alternatives to the type of oil that pipeline would carry, and it is those alternatives that must be primarily utilized now for the health and preservation of all people, and the Earth itself.

Our community in Mount Shasta, California is experiencing a different type of situation, but also similar in some ways. The Crystal Geyser Water Company wants to bottle water from a bottling-plant that Coca-Cola owned here in Mount Shasta, and it uses an aqueduct that flows to The Headwaters of the Sacramento River. A full Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was not being required of the Crystal Geyser Water Company in order to move into Mount Shasta and start the bottling process, and many people in the community here found this unacceptable, and there is currently a movement demanding a full EIR. It’s my understanding that the Dakota Access Pipeline also has not had a full EIR.

I encourage us to come together as one people, as HUMANITY, and decide collectively that it is not monetary profits that dictate and guide our way of life, no matter how alluring that money may sound or feel. The health of The People and the Earth are more important than any monetary profit can ever be. I have learned that petroleum oil is not even a sustainable or renewable energy source, yet I see the desecration of the Earth & people in order to get it and provide it. It saddens me at a very deep level. Don’t we want better? We have other options.

Thank you, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, for standing up for yourselves, your people, your way of life, and land. In doing so, you have stood up for all people, for future generations, and for the Earth itself. I see that it is in the best interests of The People and the Earth that the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline be permanently halted.

Standing With You,

Holly Irene Cardoza
