MSNBC Anchor: ‘Our Job’ Is To ‘Control Exactly What People Think’

By: Tyler Durden / ZeroHedge   During a lively discussion centered on fears that President Trump is “trying to undermine the media,” MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski let slip the awesome unspoken truth that the media’s “job” is to “actually control exactly what people think.”

SCARBOROUGH: “Exactly. That is exactly what I hear. What Yamiche said is what I hear from all the Trump supporters that I talk to who were Trump voters and are still Trump supporters. They go, ‘Yeah you guys are going crazy. He’s doing — what are you so surprised about? He is doing exactly what he said he is going to do.’”

BRZEZINSKI: “Well, I think that the dangerous, you know, edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts. And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job.”

Controlling the messages and minds

Although I agree in general with the gist of your article and that the media is owned by companies that are knee deep in politics and manipulations, her sentence can be interpreted in many ways.

"And that, that is our job.” yes, it could be interpreted as meaning that journalists are here to control how readers and viewers see the news. Journalists and the news media industry has done a good job at that on both sides. It could also be argued that she meant, they (journalists) are supposed to bring us impartial news so that we can make up our minds. It's a thin interpretation, but one that will surely be raised in her defense.

If that's a slip of the tong, it's a well measured and p[lanned one that can be interpreted to mean many things.

In the meantime, and as a journalist, that industry needs to wake up and have real journalist stand up, ideally independent of companies and start going back to presenting the news in an impartial manner, not the way MSNBC and Fox does it, or recreates it. That's why many of us don't pay attention to mainstream news media outlets and will continue to follow independent sources and journalists.
