Avocado Oil: The ‘olive Oil of the Americas’?

A number of environmental factors -- such as pollution, cigarette smoke and radiation -- can turn the oxygen molecules found in mitochondria, the power plants of cells, into free radicals. These unstable molecules destroy virtually all the normal molecules forming cells, such as lipids, proteins and even DNA, by turning them into free radicals, too. This destructive phenomenon is associated with aging and occurs in a variety of diseases, including hypertension and diabetes, which represent major challenges for health systems due to their great social and economic costs.

"In some Mediterranean countries, low or almost no appearance of these kinds of diseases has been associated with the high olive oil consumption," he explains. "Olive oil has a fat composition similar to that found in avocado oil. Therefore, avocado oil could eventually be referred to as the olive oil of the Americas."

Essential oils

Hello Boo, ... I know nothing of avocado oil, but I do use an oil in a way that I think is unusual. About 10 years ago a bought a very expensive underarm deorderant made from essential oils. I have never used anything else since then. The first 2 ingrediance listed were essential oil of peppermint, then lavender. So I soon bought both on line in 8 oz. bottles at a very reasonable price. Soon I discovered that I liked the peppermint the best, and so that is all I bought in the future after using up the lavender a little at a time mixing it with the peppermint.

It works very well for it's purpose and smells great. And is extremely economical as well. I go through no more than 8 ozs. per year at about $ 14.00 a 8 oz. bottle on ebay. I use it in a little spray bottle and then spread it over the underarm with an oversized plastic glove (that is kept in a bag), ... because it is a little hard to wash off the hands. And so little is required to get the job done.

It is so superior to any other deoderant I just can't amagine going back to the nasty junk I used to use.

That's marvelous!

Good for you! It sounds like you are listening to your body and being very conscious of what you put on it. Just underneath the underarm area lie a cluster of lymph nodes. Your lymph system is basically used to collect and redistribute blood plasma throughout your body. ("Lymph" from Latin lympha "water goddess")

Because the skin on your underarm area is so very thin, deoderants and antipersperants really need to be used with discretion. The aluminum and other heavy metals in most commercial deoderants when applied, have direct access to your lymphatic circulatory system.

I always encourage people to adopt the motto, "if you wouldn't use it on a baby, don't use it on yourself!"

Thanks for the tip -I'm sure lots of people will now be on the look out for those products you described!
