The NSA, GCHQ and other government intelligence agencies have been at the root of a diplomatic crisis between some close Western allies. Germany and France are demanding high level talks with the US over the collection of data on their citizens and even on German Chancellor Angela Merkel. While all this is going on, politicians in the US and the UK have been trying to divert your attention from their dragnet operations by trying to convince everyone the spying on you is essential to stopping terrorism.
