We have another beautiful prayer/poem from Laurie Robertson which couldn’t have come at a better time.  Thank you Laurie!

Dark mist hangs with thick tension
punctuated by trick-or-treaters, goblins and ghosts.
The moon peaks out of clouds.
Veil between living and dead stretches so thin
tonight we walk together as one.

Elements ground us in a balanced way.
Flat rock altar holds flowers, feathers and full
bowls of water brimming with emotion.
Candy, Cigars and Ceramic skulls are
painted with Mexican festive colors. Playfully they remind us
eventually, we too will return to our angels and guides.

Dogs bark, car horns blast beyond our sanctuary.
Rattling, we call in the directions:
East for new beginnings,
South for sunny love and growth,
West for maturity and introspection and
North for winds of renewal.
We call in those who help bring ourselves into spiritual focus.

We sense our dearly departed. They are here.
Drinking shots, smoking and puckering,
we blow out smoke in self-forgiveness.
Tears of sorrow cleanse us. Tears of laughter open our
hearts and communicate our message. We wish them well.

Hugs from other physicals help us through
an emotional journey of release, acceptance and gratitude.
Applying inner courage, we rethink our lives.
Divine timing, Divine order, we are alive at this time for a reason.
Gathering our blessings, we close the sacred circle.
It is getting late. Journey well.

These pictures are of an altar done by grade school children in Baja California, Mexico, in fact it’s the same school where my own children used to go, some 15 years ago. It’s customary for the children to make “Calaca’s” or skeletons of themselves and dress them up.  Older children write poems to go with their Calaca figures.
