Napoli, Italy, 1976...
...two Carabinieri -Italian military policemen- get killed and a man is arrested... Giuseppe Gullotta.
He confessed...
But was innocent!
Among those who questioned him, Renato Olino, a former Carabiniere.
22 years after the fact, Giuseppe Gullotta is set free, because he did not commit the fact.
The story: Giuseppe was caught and questioned with other two men.
Actually, he was not questioned, he's been tortured. I wan't tell what kind of torture he suffered, for it's not the intent of this story. In the end, he confessed!
After the fact, Renato Olino asked to be released from the corp, he never touched him, but he saw what happened and could not bear the weight of what happened. When questioned "I joined the Force because I truley believed in it, but after what I saw... I could not sleep anymore, and I often asked myself how they could sleep."
Since now, he was never been able to bring a judge to listen to him... no one would accept to charge someone of the Corp of Carabinieri for torture, not even if someone from the same Corp would testimony.
Now, he finally managed to find a jury who listened to him, and he was able, after 22 years, to set Giuseppe free.
Interwied, Giuseppe says: "I do not blaim them, for they were not able to see. I did not have a normal life, but I believe nor did they. One cannot be in peace with himself after doing such things so, probably, I finally was more free in jail than they were in themselves. And I am happy I can see the sae again, and that all my friends and family has always bee on my side. I love life, and I knew that things would change sooner or later."
And it IS TRUE: THEY COULD NOT SEE... SO HE DID NOT BLAME THEM... for 22 years, he was able to keep his light on!
22 years in jail, but free in his heart, what he could have not been if he had lived on hate and blaim.
A grat Lesson of TRUE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
