Strong and shallow earthquake registered as M 6.2 occurred in Pacific – Antarctic Ridge (62.580°S, 161.397°W) on January 15, 2013 at 16:09:37 UTC. According to USGS, the epicenter was at the depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) while EMSC recorded M 6.1 at depth of 80 km (49.7 miles).    The epicenter is far from any settlements. The nearest place is Antarctic, nearly 1000 km ENE and New Zealand, some 2500 km SSE.
