"Vessel"

"Vessel"

Completed July 30, 2013

This painting came out of the need to create a visual bridge between the chakra shape (four vortices) which is a regular theme in my work, with the Flower of Life and Merkaba (star tetrahedron) shapes. I created many preliminary drawings for this, and painted two studies "Merkaba Chakra I & II" in order to ready myself for making "Vessel." At one point, I had completed an intricate, full sized marker drawing, in color, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go on and commit to a full sized painting of this complexity, knowing in advance the amount of time and commitment it would take. At the encouragement of my friend and fellow artist Bronson Eden, a regular visitor of my studio, I chose to move forward with the project.

The drawing took about six weeks, and I was also drawing several other paintings at the same time. It was during the summer of 2012, and the influx of solar intelligence and increase in planetary Ascension energies was filling me with inspiration for new visual work, as well as concepts for later teachings. I used up a huge supply of .005 Micron black archival pens, and went to my local art supply store almost every day to feed my pen habit. I would buy pens and say, "Ok, three pens, that should last me until tomorrow..." The store clerk even joked about the need to stage a pen-tervention about my addiction.

So, when I finished all of these pen drawings, I began the painting process on Merkaba I & II. Because these two preliminary paintings were elements that would be repeated four times in "Vessel", I used the opportunity to fine tune my palette, choosing mostly translucent colors with no white or opaque paint in their formula. I also needed to practice painting the center portions of the designs, where the detail got to be very tight, testing the limits of what can be done even with the tiniest sable brush.

I started painting "Vessel" in February of 2013, at the same time that I was starting my first formal online course of teachings called Lessons for Full Spectrum Humans. The painting is essentially about joining together many Merkabas, or light body ships, into one cohesive organism, and I realized during the process of signing up students for my class, that I was experiencing an analogous accretion of consciousness as I connected with more and more beings of light in human form journeying through this realm towards something higher. I worked on "Vessel" until completion throughout the changes of season, having to adjust the paint formula in order to accommodate either the propane heater or air conditioner at either ends of the weather spectrum. I recorded the whole process of painting with my friend and fellow artist Star Nigro's camera, as part of her photojournalistic project, shooting a few frames and a few minutes of video each day, to be eventually edited together into a time lapse montage of the entire painting process. (Video to come on that soon!)

There are no straight lines in this painting. In order to create the single and double star tetrahedrons, or Merkaba shapes, which are made of straight lines, I clustered together long strands of tiny circles and dots. The eventual painting of The Dots, as I came to think of them, took on epic proportions with the addition of Thickener #1, a new ingredient to my standard formula which yielded a mountainous topography of candy colored pastilles. I fell in love with The Dots, and did not begrudge them any amount of time or lower back pain involved in their achievement.

The final addition of the highly dimensional Dots, and then later The Silver Dots, gave this painting a life beyond what I had originally expected, and pushed this painting above all of my other paintings into a new realm. There is now B.D., or Before Dots, and A.D., After Dots, and I have already extensively imagined the creation of the next series of extremely Dotted paintings.
