EASTERN NAVAJO AGENCY, NEW MEXICO – Twelve Navajo Nation chapters have finally received checks from Federal Emergency Management Agency that date back to 2005.
The Navajo Nation had 846 disaster projects, from as far back as 2005 that were reimbursed by FEMA.
Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly delivered reimbursement checks from FEMA for Navajo chapters from disasters stemming from as far back as 2005.
“Our chapters have been waiting years to be reimbursed for money they spent for emergencies since 2005. I am happy to report that we have completed a task that has been plaguing the Navajo Nation for years,”
President Shelly said.
President Shelly personally delivered checks to 12 chapters in Navajo Eastern Agency last Friday and on Monday. Chapters in other agencies received hand delivered checks by Navajo Department of Emergency Management staff.
The Montana Supreme Court today cleared the way for the return of wild bison to their historic prairie habitat on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, reversing a lower court ruling that had blocked state plans to transfer bison to the Fort Belknap tribes for more than a year.

CHILE – A magnitude-5.7 earthquake shook central Chile on Wednesday, causing buildings to sway in the capital but apparently causing no major damage. At least 130 people have been killed and 70,000 others left stranded in devastating flash floods to hit northern India, private television channel NDTV has reported.
The channel said on Wednesday that thousands of houses in the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh had been swept away in the floods and authorities were using helicopters to evacuate people and drop essential food supplies.
Northern India has witnessed torrential rains at least three times more than usual over the past week ever since the annual monsoon broke a fortnight ahead of schedule, leaving thousands of pilgrims and tourists stranded, officials said.
