I know I am going to get a rash of negative feedback about this post but I am going to write it anyway. I have to wonder what the world would be like if we took all of the time and energy spent by people on Facebook and spent it on becoming awake and aware and begin trying to solve the worlds problems! It is just plain frightening to see so many people oblivious to what is going on in the world. People are living on Facebook, listening to the nightly news of propaganda every night and reading the trash being put out in news papers. This has become the tale of two worlds. Reality vs fabricated BS. I know everybody loves their FB and the communication with people it provides, but how can we be a bit more responsible with it and use it for the good of mankind rather than just posting what is going on in our own small little worlds?

A falling stream of water turns into a zig-zaging, mind-bending illusion in this fascinating video. By strapping a tube to a speaker, and playing a specific frequency, the water appears to coil and snake to the ground. How does it work? Science!

More accurately, the frequency of the speaker syncs with the frame rate of the recording camera. Setting the camera to record 24 frames per second, and setting the speaker to play at 24 hertz, let's us see every sound wave travelling through the stream of water. By setting the speaker to 23 hz -- just slightly out of synch -- the water stream appears to move backwards. A frequency of 25 hz will give the impression of water lazily falling to the floor.

Tropical Cyclone Sandra weakened significantly on Tuesday, markedly lowering the threat of damaging weather to nearby New Caledonia.

At the same time, high swells radiating outward from the storm were bringing rough surf and rip currents, a phenomenon that was expected to persist through at least Thursday, to some beaches on faraway Australia's east coast.

HUNDREDS of drivers were left stranded in freezing conditions while flights and rail services were cancelled as wintry weather caused further chaos across the UK yesterday.

Many roads remained impassable as police dealt with numerous calls from motorists trapped overnight in heavy snow and ice, reporting breakdowns, crashes and abandoned vehicles.

When in Rome... I blogged one month ago today that lightning likely struck The Vatican the same day that Pope Benedict resigned. Today, on the same day that the Papal Concave convened to start the selection process, a thunderstorm has once again hit Rome with lightning and hail, per Alexandre Aguiar (from MetSul) on Twitter (thanks for the tip):

Indeed, lightning tracking site Blitzortung.Org reports many lightning strikes in the area at 2 p.m. ET (and the Worldwide Lightning Network agrees).

Her Majesty, who will be 87 next month, had been due to visit a technology park in east London on Wednesday with her son, the Duke of York, and was expected at a church service at the Guards Chapel near Buckingham Palace on Thursday.
