Recognizing the Divine Feminine within YOU.
What do we mean when we say the Divine Feminine or the Goddess and why is it relevant to you?
Our universe is a universe of polarity, a universe of cause and effect, a universe of energies giving and receiving. Ancient knowledge imparts the existence of two primal opposing yet complimentary principles known as the feminine and the masculine, the yin and the yang, the God and the Goddess. It is held that these two fundamental forces are to be found in all life, in its manifestations, and its processes throughout the whole of the universe.
The masculine and feminine principles do not exclude each other, they are bound together. Each unable to exist without the other, Yin Yang support each other, they transform into one another.
The God and The Goddess are in a divine cosmic dance of balance. Interdependent opposites in the realm of polarity, yet ultimately One with the Absolute. They are of the same source, existing and have their life in Maya.
Our Western religious culture is not all that familiar with this divine aspect of what many call God. God, mostly in the west, is usually depicted as masculine. But it is increasingly unveiled that the Divine Mother has a long tradition in the history of our planetary consciousness.
Archaeology reveals that over 90% of figurines found from roughly 40,000 BCE to 5,000 BCE worldwide were of a female Goddess. The Goddess was the primary deity of our ancient ancestors and is reflected as such in their art, their social structures, and their spiritual wisdom which lives on in the deepest recesses of our collective memory.
The feminine principle is regarded as the principle of birth, transformation or death and rebirth. The nurturer, sustainer and destroyer of the universe, the Goddess cleanses away the old to make fertile ground for new life. Just as Mother Nature brings death in the winter and births new life in the spring, so too does She rise in us to transform and create anew in our own lives. The Earth is of the feminine energy and She is in the process of transformation, as are we.
The symbols of the Goddess are found from Greece to the Hopi of North America, in pre-Columbian artifacts in Central America, and in the Bronze Age temples in Ireland. Pre-dating the Giza Pyramids, predating Stonehenge, we see symbols of the Goddess like the triple spiral denoting the Threefold Goddess, representing her threefold aspect, Maiden, Mother and Crone )o(.
Spirals symbolize how all life moves in eternal cycles. This sacred geometry can be found throughout all of creation from the microcosm to the macrocosm. Divine design is all around us and within us.
The Goddess is alive in you whether you are male or female. It is rising to meet the imbalanced energies of the world. The Patriarchy long ago grew out of proportion to its counterpart and the Divine Feminine has been suppressed for long enough. Now begins a new cycle. Women all around the world are healing and reclaiming their sacredness. Transforming and creating anew.
Women are connecting with their deeper selves and the heart of the Earth, the being and consciousness that is Gaia. We are stepping into the power of the Divine Feminine to nurture ourselves, each other and our Great Mother, this Divine Earth. In this transformation the feminine forces can dance together in sync again. We can honor and care for one another while also honoring and meeting the needs of our own self.
United in the path of recognizing our Oneness, we observe and invite all of our selves, our brightest light, our darkest shadow, the two underlying, essential forces of the universe, the feminine and the masculine in harmony, honoring and caring for each other, reciprocating the love and care that our Mother, the Earth graciously and unconditionally bestows upon all life that depends on her.
May the spirit, beauty and power of the Goddess awaken within each of us, may the Goddess which exists within every woman, man and child reawaken and bring feminine balancing energy to the world. May our feminine strengths of intuition and nurturing fully reemerge (Doreen VIRTUE PhD)
