I had been wondering how Obama could live with himself, ordering a massive strike on Syria solo, with unknown, unintended consequences. Wondering how he could look in on his sleeping children at night, knowing that the decision he made could conceivably, if everything went wrong, and indeed it could, blow up the whole world. So I was very happy to read this post, and I find the phrase “change of heart” instructive.
Before reading it I had been thinking that perhaps Obama is, consciously or unconsciously, looking for a way out of the corner he has painted himself in, and the fact that Congress doesn’t return until September 9th may well defuse the crisis enough so that a third way can be found that allows him to “save face,” spares the lives of who knows how many innocents, permanently derails the Empire’s Plan to take over the world, and, echoing the Cuban Missile Crisis, could even begin to shift the world, quite possibly, into a new, non-violent, paradigm for resolving seemingly intractable issues.
