Could Warp Speed Interstellar Travel Soon Be A Possibility?

We live in a time where more and more, science fiction is crossing paths with science fact. Scientists have begun to ponder the creation of a ‘warp drive,’ which would be able to take us to Alpha Centauri in only 2 weeks, as opposed to 4.3 years moving at the speed of light.

The idea is that a warp drive could stretch spacetime, causing the fabric of space ahead of the spacecraft to contract, while it expands behind the craft. This would allow the ship to bend the laws of physics and move much much much faster than the speed of light.

If you could travel like that, where in the universe would you visit? Would you go to see supermassive stars? Or burgeoning planets?

6 Fruits And Spices That Will Turn Your Water Into A Superfood Elixir

One of my favorite ways to hydrate is by making water infusions – that is combing fresh, whole fruits and vegetables into water and allowing them to sit for a bit before drinking.

Freshly squeezed lemon juice

This one is the easiest and probably my favorite to do. Just squeeze half a lemon into 24 ounces of water, plop the lemon into the drink itself, and enjoy! Lemon juice aids in food digestion and is an excellent source of vitamin C, critical for good health, as well as antioxidants.

Ginger

Another favorite of mine. Ginger has been used for many centuries for treating a variety of ailments like cramping, bloating, nausea, and it also improves blood circulation and works as an anti-inflammatory. If you find yourself getting sick, ginger also works as a great anti-viral agent.

Cucumber

Cut a cucumber into small pieces and throw into a jug of water...

Watch: Incredible Microscopic Footage Of Cannabis Oil Eliminating Cancer Cells

Providing further evidence that THC kills cancer cells! Since 1974, there have been studies that show cannabis to be an anti-tumor agent. The results of the 1974 Washington Post study found that THC “slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36%.

A similar study, conducted in 1998 by a research team at Madrid’s Comlutense University found that THC can selectively induce programmed cell death in brain tumors while not harming the healthy brain cells around them.

The evidence truly is mounting that cannabis can, at the very least, be a part of an effective treatment against cancer. Cancer is truly the demon of our era, but this demon will soon be banished back to the hell from which it came.

Creative Detachment: The Secret to Freedom and Happiness

let-go-or-be-dragged

“A joyful life is an individual creation that cannot be copied from a recipe.” –Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

The universe is both a complicated and a simple thing. As individuals we are interdependent manifestation of the universe, and so we too are both complicated and simple beings. We are complicated in the sense that we have a sense of self (ego), which seems at odds with our sense of connection (soul), and we are simple in the sense that we are aspects of the universe becoming aware of itself.

The key to freedom and happiness lies between these two senses and is found within the creative process. In this article we will discuss the power of healthy creative detachment and inquire as to how it can give us a healthier perception of reality.

Comet Landing 2014: Rosetta Probe Philae Discovers Organic Molecules

The Philae space probe was powered down earlier than expected, but not before an instrument discovered an organic compound that was first detected in the comet’s atmosphere, the Wall Street Journal exclusively reported Monday. The find is extraordinary considering the organic compound contains the carbon atom, which is the basis of life on planet Earth.

Further research is being conducted to see if there are complex compounds like amino acids or simple ones like methane and methanol, considered “building blocks” for proteins.

The research “will help us to understand whether organic molecules were brought by comets to the early earth,” Stephan Ulamec, the Philae’s landing manager said, according to the Journal.

When Heineken Bottles Were Square

In 1963, Alfred Heineken created a beer bottle that could also function as a brick to build houses in impoverished countries.

There are plenty of examples of structures built from recycled materials—even Buddhist temples have been made from them. In Sima Valley, California, an entire village known as Grandma Prisbey’s Bottle Village was constructed from reused glass. But this is no new concept—back in 1960, executives at the Heineken brewery drew up a plan for a “brick that holds beer,” a rectangular beer bottle that could also be used to build homes.

Gerard Adriaan Heineken acquired the “Haystack” brewery in 1864 in Amsterdam, marking the formal beginning of the eponymous brand that is now one of the most successful international breweries. Since the first beer consignment was delivered to the United States upon the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, it has been a top seller in the United States. The distinctive, bright green of a Heineken beer bottle can be found in more than 70 countries today.

Each day a person gets about three opportunities to up their nutrition in order to sustain them for that day and carry them through to the next.

Some of us, for various reasons, cannot overhaul our food lifestyles overnight. Sometimes the availability of funds and wholesome foods just isn’t there. Supplements are expensive and it’s frustrating to have to take things after striving to get nutrition from food (that comes from seriously depleted soil).

The Power of Your Mind & Setting Intentions: 7 Essential Steps

If you’re an ambitious and driven person, chances are you’ve heard the word intention thrown about:

Set your intentions…Be mindful of your intentions…Create powerful intentions…

But the term can be vague and convoluted. Is it a belief? A prayer? Is it having faith?

In simple form, your intentions are your thoughts directed toward a desired outcome. To be more complex, it’s the realization that our consciousness has the ability to create our reality.

It’s often ridiculed and passed off as Abracadabra BS, but scientific research on how the mind affects reality is growing.

Most common is the placebo effect, from sugar pills having the same effect as prozac, to non-alcoholic beer causing drunkenness, and fake surgeries improving health—our beliefs defy logic.

5 Ways That Bananas Can Replace Prescription Drugs

525916-07167048-7f61-11e3-8cdb-58f79d3137a3
More and more it seems like people turn to prescription or over the counter drugs for every little hiccup without considering what’s happening in their bodies and why they feel the way they do. Of course, there are some ailments that will require medication, but you may consider the banana for some of these other health issues.

Constipation and gas

Bananas contain a nutrient called pectin, which speeds up and assists digestion, as well as promotes the removal of toxins from the body. Overall, bananas stimulate the intestines. These impacts reduce flatulence and work as a natural laxative.

Stress

One thing stress does to us is speed up our metabolism, which can leave us feeling worse. When stressed out, potassium levels drop in the body, which means you can suffer hypertension...

Shocker: Energy Drinks Are Making Children Incredibly Ill

energy-drinks
This should come as no surprise to anyone. According to data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers, analyzed by Pediatrician Dr. Steven Lipshultz, 40% of poison control calls regard the consumption of energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster in children under the age of six years old. The doctor speaks unequivocally about this matter.

Energy drinks have no place in pediatric diets.

Dr. Lipschultz’s findings were presented at this year’s American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions. His report looked at records from October 2010 to September 2013 from 55 poison control centers in the United States. Of the 5,156 calls to poison control centers, 40% involved the accidental consumption of energy drinks by very young children. Dr. Lipscultz believes that the data is an underestimate of the whole scale of the problem.

How One Simple Breathing Technique Can Induce Better Health

Can this Simple Breathing Technique Induce Better Health How One Simple Breathing Technique Can Induce Better Health

We all do it, all day, every day. Even while we sleep. In fact we never ever stop doing it. If we did we would die. But do we ever think about it? Do we realise just how much of an impact it has on our bodies, our minds and our overall health?

It is the simple act of respiration. That’s right – breathing! Believe it or not, there are different ways to breathe, which have different effects on the body and our health. But let’s just take a look at two. Nose breathing which induces relaxation, calm, and improves health, and the other mouth breathing, which most of us do by default, because of the lives we lead, which contributes to many health concerns like elevated blood pressure and an increase in resting heart rate.

Huge amounts of carcinogenic chemicals contaminate air near fracking sites

It seems as though, with each day that passes, yet another health and environmental hazard is identified as being linked to hydraulic fracking, the process of injecting more than 200 chemicals at high pressure into the ground, shattering rock and releasing one America's most valued resources, natural gas.

Hydraulic fracking continues to be proven more dangerous than scientists imagined, with the latest research unmasking unthinkable health effects in residents living near a fracking site.

Only through observation have scientists begun to learn exactly which chemicals are being injected at high pressures into the earth, as the industry believes proprietary rights trump the public's right to know about which chemicals make up fracking mixtures.

Scientists have observed eight poisonous chemicals near fracking wells in Arkansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wyoming, all of which have exceeded the federal recommended limit. Benzene, a known carcinogen, as well as formaldehyde, were the most common. Hydrogen sulfide, responsible for a range of health effects including death, was also found.

Why Today’s Young People are Going Crazy

Constant distraction creates an insecure attachment with kids, which can lead to addiction and mental health issues.

Over the past decade or two, seasoned therapists who treat young people have been seeing some increasingly worrisome trends. Although solid statistics are hard to come by, one indication of a surge in troubled young adults comes from the reports of college mental health services. A 2010 survey ... of almost 202,000 incoming college freshmen at 279 colleges and universities showed a shocking decline in self-reported mental and emotional well-being—at its lowest level since 1985, when HERI began conducting the surveys. In this recent survey, the percentage of students who rated their emotional health “above average” fell from 64 percent in 1985 to 52 percent. According to the June 2013 APA Monitor, 95 percent of surveyed college counseling-center directors said that the number of students with “significant psychological problems is a growing concern,” citing anxiety, depression, and relationship issues as the main problems. Another 2013 survey, the American College Health Association–National College Health Assessment, reported that 51 percent of 123,078 responders in 153 US colleges had experienced “overwhelming anxiety” during the previous year...

More Evidence That Cannabis Treats Brain Cancer

WIKI - Cannabis_sativa_plant

Waking Times

Cannabis has already been proven to treat cancer anecdotally in many people – some with leukemia, others with lymphoma. But what’s gaining the most spotlight is how cannabis is able to eradicate brain cancer. In a recent study, researchers at the University of London have found that cannabis helps to ‘dramatically reduce’ the growth of new brain cancer cells.

The research showed that two active chemical components found in cannabis plants, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), helped in the treatment of cancerous brain tumors. This is one of the most difficult types of cancer to treat effectively, and the rate of survival for patients who get brain cancer is often very low. For many – once they receive a diagnosis – they are given a short five years to live; any hope of living after their prognosis is given a mere 10% chance. Those are some stark statistics.

Understanding Medicines – From Deadly Drugs to Healthy Foods

Medicines From Deadly Drugs to Healthy Foods Understanding Medicines From Deadly Drugs to Healthy Foods

By Tracy Kolenchuk

Guest Writer for Wake Up World

You might think there are only two types of medicines – conventional medicines and alternative medicines. There are many different ways to view medicines and their effects, and when we take different viewpoints, we can learn more. The differences between conventional and alternative medicines is a very weak distinction, so weak that it is not recognized by the US FDA – the official body for the approval of medicines.

How should we view different classes of medicines? In this article, we view different medicines according to their effects on healthiness. Some medicines have a positive effect on healthiness, some have a very negative effect on healthiness, and many are in-between.
