6 Things You Should Stop Expecting From Others

stop-expecting

You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you. ― Lisa Kleypas, Love in the Afternoon

The only way we can avoid other people’s impact on our lives is to stop being part of the social reality as we know it. In other words – other people’s impact on our lives is unavoidable. However, it is up to us to either let it determine our every action or to choose not to let it interfere with our own behavior and the way we handle things. Of course, the first option doesn’t exactly sound like a recipe for a happier and less complicated life. So let’s take a closer look at how to get rid of the heaviness of non-stop consideration of others.

Don’t expect people to respect you if you don’t respect yourself...

Gandhi’s Top 10 Fundamentals for Changing the World

gandhi-change-the-world

“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.”

“If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”

Mahatma Gandhi needs no long introduction. Everyone knows about the man who lead the Indian people to independence from British rule in 1947.

So let’s just move on to some of my favourite tips from Mahatma Gandhi.

Change yourself.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

We Grow Enough Food For 10 Billion People And Still Can’t End Hunger

Source: www.commondreams.org | Original Post Date: May 8, 2012 –

A new a study* from McGill University and the University of Minnesota published in the journal Nature compared organic and conventional yields from 66 studies and over 300 trials. Researchers found that on average, conventional systems out-yielded organic farms by 25%—mostly for grains, and depending on conditions.

Embracing the current conventional wisdom, the authors argue for a combination of conventional and organic farming to meet “the twin challenge of feeding a growing population, with rising demand for meat and high-calorie diets, while simultaneously minimizing its global environmental impacts.”

Unfortunately, neither the study nor the conventional wisdom addresses the real cause of hunger.

Hunger is caused by poverty and inequality, not scarcity. For the past two decades the rate of global food production has increased...

Rumsfeld & Monsanto Team Up to Bring You Neuro-Toxic Aspartame & Splenda

Christina Sarich, Natural Society
Waking Times

As we get closer to the holidays, many people look for ways to cut back on sugar and other indulgences so that when the New Year rolls around, they won’t have to work so hard to lose those extra pounds. While it is a good idea to avoid sugar altogether, using the artificial sweeteners Splenda or Aspartame might be even worse. There are numerous reasons you should avoid the stuff in little yellow packages (or pink, or blue). Here is why.

Donald Rumsfeld, the very same politician who supports GMOs, is perhaps the singular man who got Splenda onto the market after the FDA initially refused it. If you have gotten sick from consuming this toxic substance, you can thank him, along with its makers. Splenda was created by the British company Tate & Lyle along with the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.

Daily Message ~ Monday November 10, 2014

Why not simply surrender to this day with the intention of having the highest outcome possible? There is such a delicious freedom that comes from the act of surrender because you can then go about your day with complete confidence, flow and acceptance. It is choosing to live with intention and non-resistance, which allows the universe to work though you, and for you, in the most delightful ways. ~Archangel Gabriel

Be in Joy! Enjoy!: Day 69, Muluc 4

BE IN JOY! Enjoy!   Are you ready to embark on a journey towards everlasting joy? Take several long breaths. As you exhale, let out the worries of the day. Consciously pay attention to each muscle in your body, starting at the top of your head. Note the muscles in your jaws, tighten them for a second and then allow them to relax. Move down to the shoulders, arms, fingers, etc. tightening then relaxing each set of muscles, down to your toes. Breathe in as you tighten the muscles; breathe out as you relax the muscles. This is a good exercise to practice whenever you find yourself out of balance or wish to relax or meditate.

How do you find balance in all things? How can you stay centered no matter what event is occurring in your life? How can you find and experience joy even in times of extreme chaos? Start by simply telling yourself it is so, that you are balanced in this moment. That may seem overly simplistic, but it is the bottom line. With practice, it will become easier until it becomes second nature.

Where to begin? In this moment. Well up memories and feelings that made you feel good in the past or present. Feel these emotions. Send gratitude to anyone involved. Allow yourself to feel the joy you felt during that event. Bask in these feelings for as long as you desire. The purpose is to remind yourself how it feels to be in joy. Remember these feelings. Many of you have denied yourself the feeling of joy for eons. You can be the catalyst to help others out of their misery when you learn to find joy in everything.

Richest 0.1% In U.S. Now Have As Much Wealth As The Bottom 90%

will's picture

The gap between the rich and the poor has officially reached absurd levels. The richest 0.1% of Americans now own roughly the same amount as the bottom 90%...

A new paper by Mr Saez and Gabriel Zucman of the London School of Economics reckons past estimates badly underestimated the share of wealth belonging to the very rich. It uses a richer variety of sources than prior studies, including detailed data on personal income taxes (which the authors mine for figures on capital income) and property tax, which they check against Fed data on aggregate wealth. The authors note that not every potential source of error can be accounted for; tax avoidance strategies, for instance, could cause either an overestimation of the wealth share of the rich (if they classify labour income as capital income in order to take advantage of lower rates) or an underestimation (if they intentionally seek out lower yielding investments for their tax advantages). Yet they believe their estimates represent an improvement over past attempts.

So the gap may be even bigger, since the ridiculously wealth have this tendency to hide their money quite well from the taxman.

Every Day, a New Page

Open your eyes to a new world. You are the ones who will awaken the Earth. You may think that you bounce off the world, yet it is the world that bounces off you. I am speaking of both the animate and inanimate world. You are a key player. The love you send out rebounds. The ill-will that you send out rebounds. Whether you think love or angst, you spritz them out to the world.

Before you draw conclusions to this, you do not play alone, nor are you to think that each wind that blows your way is something you earned or caused or is attributable to you. Thinking that way gets you nowhere. Besides, sometimes, often, you are simply an innocent by-stander. There may be ancient effects that suddenly alight on you, but you are a new consciousness now, and it doesn’t make sense that sins are visited upon you. Just don’t think that way. Don’t be looking for cause or reason. The fact is that now you have to let go of all the why’s and wherefore’s and simply get on with your life. Remember it is your life you live now that we are talking about, not some past life that creeps up on you.

You are in the business of your present life. If it is a cyclone that you get caught up in, don’t try to trace of the origin of your being caught in it. If life is climbing a flight of stairs, you are on a different step now. There is enough to deal with what is right now.

A Layman’s Philosophy to Life

By Alex James Nicola

Now let's get off on the right foot. My philosophy is not one based on religion or some new age notion of long-forgotten mystical laws. My approach to life is simple. It is one of maturity, realism and positivity. I have always considered myself a spiritualist which in layman's terms means I do not restrict myself to one religion or belief but take them all into account and assume whatever I feel necessary. Life is a long journey of ups and downs and I think a healthy way to face all the varying chapters is to be open. Now I haven't always been so free. Like many people I grew up with the idea of this omnipresent man in the sky who judged my actions and punished me accordingly. This idea both terrified me and brought me relief.

Massive Walmart Protests Planned For Black Friday

Over the years, the discontent for Walmart’s business practices has been steadily growing. In the past, they’ve been characterized as small-business killers, even prompting television programs like South Park and Family Guy to take a stab at them. Every year that passes, the public learns more about them. We’ve learned things about how Walmart actually instructs their employees to apply for financial assistance, and that the company’s low wages require the employees to receive around $400,000 in welfare benefits each year [per store].

“I must be happy. All the time.” – Is That True?

image

This post may disturb those inclined towards compulsive positive thinking.  But it is likely to provide much needed relief to those who feel stretched and pressured by this kind of an expectation.  For myself, I have found that calling a spade a spade (and a rose a rose!) brings immense ease.  So much of our energy is spent in denial and suppression of our thoughts and feelings.  This very avoidance keeps alive and persistent that which we wish to run from.  As also the consequent self- judgment and perpetual exhaustion.  For when we cannot control what we experience, we end up feeling inadequate and helpless.

Long ago, I read a definition of suffering that made complete sense to me:
Suffering = Pain * Resistance
It was credited to Shinzen Young and I am most grateful for this useful gem of a reminder.

10 Toxic Behaviors that Kill Your Confidence

closed-eyes-woman

So, pulling from a decade of experience as a life coach, in an effort to help Lane walk more closely Sara’s footsteps, here are some toxic, confidence-killing behaviors to avoid:

Getting caught up in lots of needless drama.– Some people love to stir up controversy and drama for no apparent reason. Don’t buy in to their propaganda. Stay out of other people’s drama and don’t needlessly create your own. Instead, imagine what would happen if you spent this entire day, and every day hereafter, with all your energy directed toward your most positive possibilities. Rather than being annoyed, be amused. Instead of getting angry, become curious. In place of envy, feel admiration. Life is too short to argue, fight or be negative in any way. Count your blessings, value the people who matter and move on from the drama with your head held high.

Seeking approval from everyone around you.– Confident people have no interest in pleasing everyone they meet...

9 Choices Your Future Self Will (Definitely) Regret

“Of all the words of mice and men, the saddest are, “It might have been.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut

We all have something at the back of our minds that we wish to have done differently or haven’t done at all. We often ask ourselves what could be different if we tried harder to be better. Here is a list of things you will regret in the long run.

1. Letting other people shape your world

You are the architect of your own life. When you know who you really are and what you want most, you have discovered two of the most important things in your life. But it takes courage and persistence to actually go after what you want to achieve. This kind of responsibility is feared by many people and usually they allow others to create their dreams for them. Maybe it is because they aren’t brave enough to create their own life path or are too scared to do it alone. And mayb...
