3 Tips to Escape the Perfectionism Trap and Feel Good Enough

sad-woman

“I have done my best. That is all the philosophy of living one needs.” ~Lin-yutang

Perfectionism—the word brings to mind images of order and organization, of effectiveness and efficiency. This is what society expects from a “perfectionist,” and this is what is projected as desirable and attainable. There is an aspirational value to being a “perfectionist.”

Many people believe that perfectionistic tendencies motivate people to do their best and achieve their goals.

However, I can vouch for the fact that it actually feels like being caught in a trap. There is a feeling of suffocation and dread at not being able to escape. The joy of living is sucked out leaving one feeling inadequate and incompetent all the time.

Understanding the nature of illusion

How can someone be free if they can't even see their own cage? Even worse, what if they believed the very thing that was keeping them caged would someday set them free?

And what is it we want freedom from? Wants, needs, and desires? Fear, pain, and suffering? Daily toil, drudgery, and boredom? Money problems, relationship problems? All our problems? Wouldn't that be nice to not have to worry about all those things?

Let us go to the core, what is the root of all these issues? Simple, every single problem we have is a thought in our minds. A physical situation may exist, but it is the mind's reaction that makes it into a problem. Our own thinking turns it into a problem and through this we become slaves to the thoughts in our minds.

A prisoner who knows nothing other than prison would simply think that's the way life is. A prisoner who has tasted freedom will suffer far more when locked away, even though the reality of the situation would be the same for both prisoners. It's simply a difference in perception.

Because the mind can create the illusion that we aren't free, the illusion that we are dependent upon the body, mind and ego, the mind may seem very powerful. It's not powerful at all, but to a person who can only see through the filter of their mind, it's the most powerful thing in the world. The Being Within is where the power comes from, but that power is unconsciously given away by feeding into illusions.

What’s The Deal With Our Culture? Alan Watts Explains

In this five minute video, Alan Watts, a British born philosopher, talks about what’s wrong with our culture and how to turn it around. Watts is often credited with introducing Eastern philosophy to the western audiences of Europe and North America.

Before his passing on November 16th, 1973, he had accrued a rather large following in the San Francisco Bay area. He authored more than 25 books on eastern and western religion, youth culture, and Buddhism.

Watts was born into a middle class family in Chislehurst, Kent, in 1915. His mother was a housewife and his father a missionary. He was a talkative, imaginative, and headstrong young man, which is something he maintained for the whole of his life.

We hope you enjoy this video.

The mind is not your reality; it is a false interpretation. You are not the mind, you have never been a mind, you can never be the mind. That is your problem- you have become identified with something which is not. You are like a beggar who believes that he has a kingdom. He is so worried about the kingdom -- how to manage it, how to govern it, how to prevent anarchy. There is no kingdom, but he is worried.

Chuang Tzu once dreamt that he had become a butterfly. In the morning he was very much depressed. His friends asked, "What has happened?.- we have never seen you so depressed." Chuang Tzu said, "I am in a puzzle, I am at a loss, I cannot understand. In the night, while asleep, I dreamt that I had become a butterfly." So the friends laughed: "Nobody is ever disturbed by dreams. When you awake, the dream has disappeared, so why are you disturbed?"

Chuang Tzu said, "That is not the point. Now I am puzzled: if Chuang Tzu can become a butterfly in the dream, it is possible that now the butterfly has gone to sleep and is dreaming that she is Chuang Tzu." If Chuang Tzu can become a butterfly in the dream, why not the other? - the butterfly can dream and become Chuang Tzu. So what is real -- whether Chuang Tzu dreamt that he has become a butterfly or the butterfly is dreaming that she has become Chuang Tzu? What is real? Rainbows are there. You can become a butterfly in the dream. And you have become a mind in this bigger dream you call life. When you awaken you don't achieve an awakened state of mind, you achieve a no-state of mind, you achieve no-mind.

Of Old Souls & Heaven On Earth

will's picture

By Jillian Lavinge

An interesting time has come upon us. What interesting times we have gone through to date as human beings! There has been talk for many years about a new paradigm manifesting upon earth. And old souls have been assisting in bridging the gap between dimensions for so long. Trying to teach the formless to a world built on form. Us old souls have been way- showers for this new paradigm, we are consistently assisting others in gradually implementing a higher vibrational way of living into our own lives. Inspiring others without pushing or pulling. Going through our own activations and initiations long before this current life time, and continuing to upgrade our cellular structure the moment would call for in this present incarnation. We came here to do this. Let there be no mistake. This is our work, old souls.

Want To Raise An Environmentally Conscious Kid? This Is How

j0433196[1]

Humans are one of the strangest animals on this planet. From what I can tell, we’re the only ones comfortable with leaving less for subsequent generations if it means we get to engage in our gross hedonism for our lifetimes. Each organism’s main purpose is to continue the line – to not go extinct. The way we’ve ambivalent toward the future of children being born today is surprising.

But raising environmentally minded children is a good thing to do for insuring the safety and sustainability of society. But how do you raise ecologically conscious kids?

Well, for starters, kids learn almost everything from their parents, so step one is to simply lead by example. Recycle, plant gardens, talk about the importance of healthy food, of biking and walking; and for the love of God turn off the TV once in a while.

Equally important is for kids to spend time in nature...

The Sacred Science of Ancient Japan

Waking Times

The hunt for the truth about ancient history has long been bound up with the exploration of esoteric symbolism. There are hundreds of books available to us today about European alchemy, hermeticism, and all aspects of Western esoterica. We also have a good body of literature in English, if a little harder to access, about the authentic practices of Sufism, Hindu asceticism, and Buddhist esoterica. But until very recently, we have had almost no information about the native practices of the Far East. It is only in the past few years that we have seen the first full translations of the classics of Taoist alchemy, and there is virtually no literature about Japan.

How to Awaken the Kundalini

Waking Times

Video - The human energetic body, also referred to as the pranic sheath or astral body, is an intricate network of 72,000 nadis that facilitate the movement of prana, the vital energy of the human body. The nadis, also referred to as astral tubes, astral nerves or meridians, come together in seven energy centers called the chakras which are located along the central canal, the Sushumna, which corresponds to the spine in the physical body. As the Kundalini energy rises through Sushumna, large amounts of high octane energy reach the brain and assist in higher spiritual pursuits. These videos will give you an idea of what this process entails, although for most it takes years of practice to experience a true Kundalini rising.

A breakthrough occurs when you recognize you are more energy than matter.” ~ Caroyln Myss, Intuitive Healer

Make no mistake you are swimming in an unseen sea of energy.

We are constantly exposed to an electromagnetic field (also EMF or EM field) which is a physical field produced by electrically charged objects. It affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field. That means – you! You can think of this sea of energy as one of the natural laws governing the material world, and unless you are a highly advanced yogi or sage able to completely block this energetic interference with your own energy, you are being bombarded with electromagnetic waves of all sorts.

What is at the Core of Addictions?

What is it at the core of addiction that keeps pulling us back in? Be it video games, drugs, tobacco or watching tv, there is something going on that keeps us coming back for more.

Often we engage in these behaviors because in that moment they feel good. We feel happy, satisfied or even safe. But in the end perhaps there is more going on deep inside that is the core to all addictions, no matter how they show up in our lives.
