SUMMER SOLSTICE: Today is the first day of northern summer. At 1:04 a.m. EDT on June 21st, the sun reached its highest point on the celestial sphere (declination = +23.5o) marking the start of summer in the northern hemisphere, and winter in the south. Happy solstice!

SOLSTICE SOLAR FLARE: This morning, June 21st at 03:16 UT, the sun itself marked the solstice with an M2-class solar flare from sunspot AR1777. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory photographed the extreme ultraviolet flash and a plume of material flying out of the blast site:

As sunspots go, AR1777 is neither large nor apparently menacing, yet it has been crackling with flares for days. Before it rotated over the sun's eastern limb on June 20th, it unleashed a series of farside flares and CMEs. Today's explosion was not Earth directed, but future explosions could be as the sun's rotation continues to turn AR1777 toward our planet. NOAA forecasters estimate a 30% chance of M-flares and a 5% chance of X-flares during the next 24 hours. Solar flare alerts: text, voice.

It’s that beautiful time of year again in the Northern Hemisphere, when the June solstice – your signal to celebrate summer – is upon us. The 2013 June solstice happened last night or this morning (June 21, 2013) according to clocks in North America. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, this solstice marks the longest day of the year. Early dawns. Long days. Late sunsets. Short nights. The sun at its height each day, as it crosses the sky. Meanwhile, south of the equator, winter has begun.

Grand Isle Residents Say Waterspout The Biggest They've Ever Seen

NEW ORLEANS -- Eyewitness described it as frightening and awe inspiring, and many snapped photos and video.

The funnel cloud caused some minor damage. Part of the roof of a camp has been ripped off after the spout landed near a neighboring camp, while dozens of people marveled at the size and power of the waterspout.

Raging Colorado, Arizona wildfires prompt evacuations

DENVER — Several wildfires raged unchecked across drought-parched Colorado on Thursday, one threatening oil and gas wells close to the Utah border and another about 300 miles to the southeast chased a group of Boy Scouts from their camp near New Mexico.

A separate wind-whipped fire roaring through chaparral and pine forests in central Arizona forced the evacuation of about 460 homes near the town of Prescott, about 100 miles north of Phoenix.Scorching temperatures, low humidity and gusting winds have much of Colorado under red-flag warnings for extreme fire danger, the National Weather Service said in a bulletin.

BRAZIL – Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff, and key ministers are to hold an emergency meeting on Friday following a night of protests that saw Rio de Janeiro and dozens of other cities echo with percussion grenades and swirl with teargas as riot police scattered the biggest demonstrations in more than two decades. The protests were sparked last week by opposition to rising bus fares, but they have spread rapidly to encompass a range of grievances, as was evident from the placards. “Stop corruption. Change Brazil;” “Halt evictions;” “Come to the street. It’s the only place we don’t pay taxes; “Government failure to understand education will lead to revolution.” A vast crowd – estimated by the authorities at 300,000 and more than a million by participants – filled Rio’s streets, one of a wave of huge nationwide marches against corruption, police brutality, poor public services and excess spending on the World Cup.

A budding subduction zone offshore of Spain heralds the start of a new cycle that will one day pull the Atlantic Ocean seafloor into the bowels of the Earth, a new study suggests.

Understanding how subduction zones start is long-lasting mystery in plate tectonics, said lead study author João Duarte, a research fellow at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

☼ Happy Summer Solstice!  I woke up this morning already experiencing the stunning power of of the incoming frequencies;  this in the form of a sharp pain shooting through my Pineal gland, off and on, at regular intervals.  Also, I’m experiencing some sort of additional activation in ear-chakras, which I think is pretty cool.  My Team is telling me that both of these discomforts are associated with the energies further opening up my channels of communication.  They are also telling me that this is not exclusive to select individuals-these activations are happening across the board, to everybody.  Hooray!

NSA Whistleblower Russ Tice Says NSA Spying, Blackmailing Government Officials

Russ Tice, a former intelligence analyst and Bush-era NSA whistleblower, claimed Wednesday that the intelligence community has ordered surveillance on a wide range of groups and individuals, including high-ranking military officials, lawmakers and diplomats.

He also made another stunning allegation. He says the NSA had ordered wiretaps on phones connected to then-Senate candidate Barack Obama back in 2004.

“They went after–and I know this because I had my hands literally on the paperwork for these sort of things–they went after high-ranking military officers; they went after members of Congress, both Senate and the House, especially on the intelligence committees and on the armed services committees and some of the–and judicial,” Tice told Peter B. Collins on Boiling Frog Post News.

Mass UFO Sighting: Thousands Watch 'UFO' Hovering in Brazilian Skies during Protests

Thousands of people who participated in protests in Sao Paulo, Brazil, witnessed an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) hovering over the skies late on the evening of 17 June. One of the protestors recorded a video, which has been circulating on the Internet.

Unfortunately, no other videos of the sighting are available at the moment. The YouTube user has confirmed that there is a search on for more recordings, explaining: "We are trying our outright best at getting another video and when we do! It will be a ground breaker."
