Before starting this article, I wish to specify that it is not because I choose to question the concept of overpopulation that I also question the need to end poverty, overconsumption and environmental destruction. Overpopulation may be a concept, but poverty and unsustainable practices are a reality and my life is geared towards raising consciousness about alternative ways to operate as a society.

However, I believe it is important to question everything; even claims closely tied to the activist and environmentalist movement. Why? Because by questioning theories such as overpopulation, I discovered an even more promising future than the never-ending struggle of trying to merely control the damage we cause to the planet and each other without addressing the cause.

Questioning scare-tactics, even if they seem to be geared towards noble causes, does not necessarily deny our support of the causes...

We are dangerously close to a situation where ~ if the American people took to the streets in righteous indignation or if there were another 9/11 ~ a mechanism for martial law could be quickly implemented and carried out under REX 84.  

The Cheney/Bush administration has a plan which would accommodate the detention of large numbers of American citizens during times of emergency.

The plan is called REX 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984. Through Rex-84 an undisclosed number of concentration camps were set in operation throughout the United States, for internment of dissidents and others potentially harmful to the state.

Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching is cherished for it’s ability to suggest, rather than command a way to find one’s path to beauty, goodness, and high quality of life.

Lao Tzu’s words resonate now as before. One who can follow his teachings will discover the secret to lasting happiness.

Take a moment and contemplate the truth in his words.

About the Self

When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everyone will respect you.

The much sought-after and revered word ‘creativity’ has been propelled into super-star status by our elite and money-crazy society. In this day and age winning a slot on television to prove you’ve ‘got what it takes’ has reduced creativity to a caterwauling capitalist market place; with a machine spitting out the next imitation of what was once popular in the hope that investment comes up tops.

Throughout the ages, story has been used as a tool to explain how we deal with the world, obscured beneath layer upon layer of metaphor and symbolism, stories contain guidelines for life, and can be the best way to teach children basic morals through the challenges a character will face.
