According to a study published by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Americans waste about 40% of all food produced in the United States. It is also estimated that 70% of all fresh water consumption in the US is attributed to the agricultural production; which means that food waste alone accounts for one quarter of ALL the water consumed within the US. Furthermore, given that the average farm requires 3 kcal of fossil fuel energy to produce 1 kcal of food (before accounting for energy requirements of food processing and transportation) wasted food accounts for roughly 300 million barrels of oil per year.

Once quantified, the reality of wasting food is a horrid scenario. So what can you do?

Silver's picture

Naturalnews, By: PF Louis, 06/12/2013

Over the counter pain remedies such as aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen have been the go-to choices for killing pain and/or inflammation fast. But they have their vast array of side effects. Aspirin has been linked to gastrointestinal problems and ulcers as well hemorrhaging and strokes. Tylenol contains acetaminophen, which is toxic to the liver.

Ibuprofen is an NSAID (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug). Advil and Motrin are common OTC ibuprofen drugs that create side effects such as nausea and dizziness, hypertension, DNA damage, hearing loss, and miscarriage. Synthetic drugs may offer fast pain relief, but they are risky. There are many effective pain relieving and anti-inflammatory natural remedies that are effective after time, but below are some that offer fast pain relief.

There will be more ‘significant information’ exposed in the near future, AP cites the journalist who revealed classified US surveillance programs leaked by an American defense contractor. "We are going to have a lot more significant revelations that have not yet been heard over the next several weeks and months," Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian told AP.

Greenwald, who over the weekend identified ex-CIA staffer Edward Snowden as his source, added that the decision is in the works as to when the next story will be published based on former CIA contractor’s leaked information.

'Caldas Tear' Resolves Puzzling Seismic Activity Beneath Colombia

By: sciencedaily.com, 06/06/2013

Colombia sits atop a complex geological area where three tectonic plates are interacting, producing seismicity patterns that have puzzled seismologists for years. Now seismologists have identified the "Caldas tear," which is a break in a slab that separates two subducting plates and accounts for curious features, including a "nest" of seismic activity beneath east-central Colombia and high grade mineral deposits on the surface.

mint leaves 263x164 Past Research Finds Mint to Protect Against Cancer and Radiation

When it comes to healing with natural solutions, many people put limits on just how effective herbs and other nutritional treatments can be. They may accept peppermint as a solution for upset stomach, for instance, but balk when you suggest it could lessen the damaging impact of radiation or even help stop cancer in its tracks. Still, there are powerful natural healers out there that can likely do everything that pharmaceuticals can, and do them with fewer side effects and dangers.

Peppermint has long been used as an herbalists friend. It has many simple uses for everything from nausea to headaches, but the unassuming and sweet-smelling herb may be useful in far more serious situations as well. According to the BBC, researchers with the University of Salford created a drug based off of the extract of Scutellaria barbata (Skullcap barbat) from the peppermint family that has had impressive results on blocking tumor growth.

Worried About Our Food? You’re Not Alone. A Map of the Movement

Blogs.prevention.com, By:  Robyn O'Brien, 06/09/2013

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  And the image below could not do a better job of showing our country’s food awakening when it comes to genetically engineered ingredients quietly being slipped into our food.

It shows the cities where people have come together to call attention to this change that was introduced into our food supply about 15 years ago: the genetic modification of a select number of food crops by a chemical company that enables these crops to be increasingly saturated with their chemicals. It’s an operating system, hardwire the seeds to withstand chemicals, and a brilliant business model for a chemical company.  The thing is: consumers aren’t so sure.  Around the world, 64 countries labeled these ingredients, and if the map below is any indicator, it appears that Americans around the country want the US to follow suit.

Research on Natural Alternatives To Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen

Pain and unhealthy levels of inflammation are fast becoming default bodily states in the industrialized world. While in most cases we can adjust the underlying pro-inflammatory conditions by altering our diet, and reducing stress and environmental chemical exposures, these approaches take time, discipline and energy, and sometimes we just want the pain to stop now. In those, often compulsive moments, we find ourselves popping an over-the-counter pill to kill the pain. The problem with this approach is that, if we do it often enough, we may kill ourselves along with the pain

Hackers affiliated with the Anonymous collective have leaked a US Department of Defense memo relating to the PRISM program, revealing that the National Security Agency has secretly gathered intelligence on millions of Americans for years. The hacktivists, who have long sought complete transparency online and elsewhere, published a total of thirteen documents, one of which outlines the US government’s “NetOps Strategic Vision” for monitoring the Internet.

The documents are mostly pulled from 2008, just after when the government reportedly began using PRISM to mine servers at technology companies including Microsoft and Yahoo. An NSA slideshow published Thursday by the Guardian and the Washington Post reveals the intelligence community first gained access to Google in January of 2009 and Facebook in June of the same year.
