You may think that the part of the world you live in is small. You live on a block in a town. You know a few people. Daily you travel a short distance. Your world seems to be as big as the place where you work, where the boss is king. You don’t see how you possibly impact the world at large.

First of all, despite appearances, you do not live in a separate part of the world. The world is a whole, and you live in the whole of it. You are not a speck in the Universe. You impact ten thousand miles away as much as you impact your next-door neighbor. Of course, depending where you live, you may not know your next-door neighbor’s name, and you don’t see how you can possibly impact your neighbor anymore than you can impact a stranger ten thousand miles away.

Red tide kills record number of Florida manatees

Toxic red tide has killed a record number of endangered manatees along the Southwest Florida coast.

With no sign of when the deadly algae bloom might abate, the preliminary death toll of 174 is likely to continue rising, state and federal wildlife managers said Monday. The number already has topped a previous red tide high of 151 in 1996.

Big Story Weather Discussion for March 11: Low pressure will be moving through the Great Lakes today bringing heavy snow towards the Western Lakes, while along the frontal boundary there will be rain showers and even a few thunderstorms for the Gulf Coast Region. High pressure over the Rockies will bring cool air into the Plains and also a nice day for the West Coast. Here is the weather for a few select cities:

Re~Post: The Battle of Los Angeles

On the night of February 24, 1942, an incident that has come to be called "The Battle of Los Angeles" erupted in the California sky. It happened less than three months after the U.S. had entered WW2.

An unidentified flying object was spotted, air raid sirens sounded, and a blackout was ordered. By the end of the "battle," over 1400 anti-aircraft shells (12.8 pounds each) had been fired at the object but the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade could not bring it down.

Several buildings were damaged by friendly fire, three civilians were killed by the anti-aircraft fire, and another three died of heart attacks attributed to the stress of the hour-long bombardment. (I adapted this information from Wikipedia.)

Despite difficult times, it is so important to continue to move forward, but even more important branch out! It is essential that light workers stop singing to the choir and go out and inspire all those not yet initiated into the awakening of humanity. We must not try to persuade others to see our views, but rather engage others and inspire in them the desire to leave their security of the familiar behind and venture forth into searching their world for a clearer understanding of the truth and igniting their eagerness to know more! Persuasion creates a wall people put up from feeling pressured into something. Instead,we need to guide people to a place where they feel in control of what is being offered to them and that they are the ones reaching out longing to know more and are not being preached to. It is a fine line to walk but a very critical one to get right!

Amplified Greenhouse Effect Shifts North's Growing Seasons

Of the 10 million square miles (26 million square kilometers) of northern vegetated lands, 34 to 41 percent showed increases in plant growth (green and blue), 3 to 5 percent showed decreases in plant growth (orange and red), and 51 to 62 percent showed no changes (yellow) over the past 30 years. Satellite data in this visualization are from the AVHRR and MODIS instruments, which contribute to a vegetation index that allows researchers to track changes in plant growth over large areas.

Vegetation growth at Earth's northern latitudes increasingly resembles lusher latitudes to the south, according to a NASA-funded study based on a 30-year record of land surface and newly improved satellite data sets.

An international team of university and NASA scientists examined the relationship between changes in surface temperature and vegetation growth from 45 degrees north latitude to the Arctic Ocean. Results show temperature and vegetation growth at northern latitudes now resemble those found 4 degrees to 6 degrees of latitude farther south as recently as 1982.

Another record broken in Melbourne's heatwave

Records tumble as Melburnians endure a long hot spell - ABC

The record for the longest stretch of hot weather in Melbourne has been broken.

The temperature has been above 30 degrees Celsius for nine days in a row.

The weather bureau's James Taylor says it breaks the previous record set in February 1961.
