BREAKING: Africans Are Being Sold In Libya’s Open Slave Markets [VIDEO]

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

It’s 2017, and shocking footage has emerged of Libyans being sold at auction at open-air slave markets. Tens of thousands of vulnerable African migrants and refugees risk everything to get to Libya’s coast and then across the Mediterranean into Europe – which is described as the deadliest route on Earth. According to reports, the migrants that end up in business detention centres are sold off like goods.

“As shocking as it seems, it’s indeed true,” Leonard Doyle from the International Organization for Migration tells Counting the Cost. “The reason it [slave trade] can happen is because there is really no rule of law across much of Libya. Libya is a country as big as France, with a lot of space there. Migrants are coming there … they see the promise of a new life when they go to their Facebook feed and they think something wonderful is waiting for them in Europe, because a smuggler has abused the system and has sold them that lie.”

5 Areas Of Change For Planetary Evolution

By Luke Miller Truth Theory

There is an exchange in information and action that is happening on an unprecedented scale currently. We have the emergence of technology that allows an instantaneous exchange of ideas. As of this moment there are literally 12 year old on social media with millions of followers who will like, comment and share any and everything that they post. This exchange has redirected conversations, shifted consciousness and opened pandora’s box, when it comes to ideas.

There is a strange paradox which exists within this- more people with beautiful messages who would have always been ignored by the old media paradigm are now sharing their message, while the simultaneous (and I would argue darker) ideas of consumerism, vanity and even worse are also being perpetuated.

With all this opening and expansion many ideas that are accepted as normal from the old society are being reframed and restructured, people are questioning the medical, criminal and financial establishments, while also thinking up new alternatives.

I am sure there are many pillars we could use to create a balanced society, and many would become apparent as the first pillars are built, but here are 5 that most people would agree upon.

Florida Lawns Are Being Converted Into Edible Farms

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

Imagine having row upon row of carrots, lettuce and tomatoes in your front yard. This organisation decided to turn homeowners lawns in Florida into rows of fresh local produce.

Fleet Farming are a volunteer-led program that transform under-used lawns into lush edible farms. All of their volunteers ride bikes and go from lawn to lawn to seed and harvest the produce. Homeowners have the opportunity to donate their garden to the organisation. Once approved, they have to sign a two-year agreement and donate approximately $500 to cover start-up costs. In turn, the homeowners get a share of the produce. The rest is sold at local farmers markets. What’s even more amazing is that 100 percent of the sales go back into the organisation and cover the costs of irrigation, composts and seeds.

Meet John Magiro, A Kenyan Entrepreneur Who Built His Own Hydropower Station From Scratch (Video)

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

What do you do when your village is not connected to the main electricity grid, but you have a waterfall nearby? John Magiro is an unsung hero from a small village in Murang’a county, Kenya. After seeing his mother struggle, he decided to build a hydropower station using everyday objects, including a dynamo and a bicycle rim. Despite failing his exams at school, Magiro has successfully produced power for over 350 households.

As a child, Magiro used a kerosene lamp to study in the evening. The kerosene would often run out which meant that he had to walk almost one kilometre to buy more fuel. Due to lack of school fees, Magiro was sent home from school. He used this time to work on his turbine power plant project which has turned out to be a huge success. Magiro charges a standard fee of $2 a month and the electricity generated is now being used by many people in the village.

Juice Company Dumps 12,000 Tonnes Of Orange Peel In The Forest And Transforms Forest Into Magical Landscape

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

In the late 1990s, an experimental conservation project in Costa Rica saw a juice company dump 1,000 truckloads of discarded orange peel on degraded land. Unfortunately, the project was forced to end in its second year and was forgotten about – until now. Nearly two decades after the project was abandoned, the orange peel has grown into a thriving lush green forest.

In 1997, two ecologists from the University of Pennsylvania approached Del Oro, a Costa Rican orange juice manufacturer. They said that if Del Oro agreed to donate parts of its land bordering the Guanacaste Conservation Area, a national park, the company would be free to dump its waste orange peel at no cost in designated zones where the soil quality was poor. Del Oro decided to seize this unique opportunity and some 12,000 tonnes of orange peel was dumped on the deserted pasture.

A Hole The Size Of Lake Superior Opened Up In Antarctica, And Scientists Have No Idea What It Is

By Amanda Froelich Truth Theory

On this truly auspicious day (10/10/10), news of the mysterious nature was revealed by atmospheric physicist Kent Moore, a professor at the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus. Reportedly, a hole as large as Lake Superior — or the entire state of Maine — has opened up in Antarctica, and scientists are stumped as to why it is there.

Moore told Vice that the hole “is quite remarkable,” and that “it looks like you punched a hole in the ice.” According to the atmospheric physicist, areas of open water surrounded by sea ice are known as  polynias. Though they are common in coastal regions of Antarctica, this one is confusing to scientists because the polynia is “deep in the ice pack.” As a result, it has been formed by processes that aren’t understood. “This is hundreds of kilometres from the ice edge. If we didn’t have a satellite, we wouldn’t know it was there,” said Moore. At its peak, the phenomena measures 80,000 k㎡.

According To Science, Japanese “Forest Bathing” Can Improve Your Health

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

In 1982, forest bathing became part of the national public health program in Japan. Forest bathing is a “Shinrin-yoku’’ therapy that encourages you to take in the forest atmosphere. This therapy has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine.

Forest bathing doesn’t require you to do any exercise. No working out, no jogging or hiking, just quiet contemplation surrounded by trees. Forest bathing is about relaxing.

Japan have spent many years studying the physical and psychological effects of forest bathing. From 2004 to 2012, they spent $4 million dollars conducting scientific research into the benefits of forest bathing. According to the findings, this Japanese practice has been proven to lower heart rate, boost immune system, reduce stress hormone production and improve your overall wellbeing.

Seattle Commit To Banning Plastic Straws And Utensils In Restaurants

By Jess Murray Truth Theory

Our planet has a major plastic problem, and the only way to help it is to drastically reduce our plastic consumption. Whilst it is great to reduce plastic use within our own homes, we all know the feeling of when we get sent a package that has been unexpectedly wrapped in numerous layers of plastic, or when unnecessary plastic items are given to us during meals out in public places. There are currently 300 million tons of plastic being produced globally every single year, according to recent reports.

However, as the serious issue of plastic pollution arises increasingly in the public eye, more businesses are trying hard to face the problem head on, and reduce their use of plastic where it’s not needed, or alternatives can be found.

The Future Of Farming: Phone-Powered AI Detects Diseases In Cassava Plant With Incredible Accuracy

By Fattima Mahdi Truth Theory

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the rise, many industries are now looking to this advanced technology to help businesses grow more efficient. One such industry is modern agriculture. AI-based digital farming solutions can significantly accelerate learning. Farmers are now making informed decisions about how they use resources like soil, water and energy by using AI technology.

The cassava plant is the most widely grown root crop on Earth. Researchers just developed a program that detect diseases in the plant with almost 100 percent accuracy. The technology does not require cloud computing or hulking processors for that matter. Instead, the network that powers it runs entirely on a smartphone-based program.

“Some neural networks require hundreds of millions of parameters and just the file size you would need to store those is beyond what you could include in an app,” says Google’s Pete Warden. “Happily, it turns out that networks trained to recognise certain kinds of objects can actually be taught to recognise other things with a lot less data, and that’s really the idea behind transfer learning,” says Warden.

Mesmerizing White Humpback Whale Spotted Off The Coast Of Australia [Video]

By Amanda Froelich Truth Theory

Jump, Migaloo! In recent months, we’ve seen photographs of white giraffes and even a white moose. Now, footage has been shared of a rare white humpback whale, and nature enthusiasts can’t contain their excitement. The whale, named Migaloo (after the Aboriginal word meaning “white man”), was recently spotted off the coast of Sydney, Australia. And, he is just as majestic as many remember.

Migaloo was first spotted in 1990 and is believed to be around 30 years old. As National Geographic reports, it is unknown whether or not he has leucism (a condition which results in white or patchy skin, but the eyes remain dark) or is a true albino, meaning he doesn’t produce any pigment at all.
