Giving yourself permission to be silly will nourish your creativity and is a good exercise in letting go.

Children appreciate all that is silly as a matter of course. Their grasp of humor is instinctual, and even the smallest absurdities provoke joyous gales of earnest laughter. As we age, this innate ability to see the value of silliness can diminish. Work takes precedence over play, and we have less incentive to exercise our imaginative minds by focusing on what is humorous. When we remember childhood, we may recall the pleasures of donning funny costumes, reciting nonsense poems, making up strange games, or playing pretend. This unabashed silliness nourished our vitality and creativity. We can take in this nourishment once again by giving ourselves permission to lighten up and be silly.

Drew Lewis Cancer

Drew Lewis will finally be tumor free on Friday -- after battling cancer for 11 months -- thanks to the amazing generosity of complete strangers.

According to the New York Daily News, Lewis, who works as a real estate agent in Missouri, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in January when he went to the doctor for what he thought was a routine checkup.

Victory! Senate votes to end the war

Today, for the first time, the Senate took a roll call vote in favor of bringing our troops home from Afghanistan.

This morning, Senator Merkley’s amendment to bring our troops home from Afghanistan passed in an overwhelming 62-33 vote! THANK YOU to all of you who have helped make this happen.

A few years ago my life, on paper, would have looked perfect. A nice house in a beautiful village, three happy, healthy children, lots of hobbies, friends and a thriving holistic therapy practice. Then I had a car accident, which exacerbated a pre-existing pelvic condition, caused some spinal damage, and in seconds everything changed. I lost my mobility and at first, felt like I had lost myself too.

Before my accident I had thought I was happy. I had been a holistic therapist for 8 years and loved my job. My thirst for knowledge was insatiable. I was a complete course junkie who always wanted to know more and I strived for credibility in everything I did. I have a ridiculously long list of qualifications, none of which filled the gap inside me. Looking back now I realise I was on a quest to find the ‘answer’ but of course this is impossible if you do not know what the question is.

Neighbor Rebecca called this morning. Do I have a turkey roasting pan she might borrow? Yes. She has a truck. I have a car. Might we exchange their use sometimes? Yes. Neighbor Doug called yesterday. He wants to help his nephew buy new tires, NOW. Might he borrow $1000 until Monday? Yes. My puppy Shadow, just this minute, places his adorable little hairy paws on my receptive thigh and begs: “play ball?” Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
