BEIRUT: Young demonstrators angered by the recent assassination of a top intelligence officer in Beirut gathered Saturday at Martyrs’ Square in the capital and called on the government of Prime Minister Najib Mikati to step down over the affair.
The protesters, many belonging to the youth wings of March 14 coalition parties, waved their respective party flags and held posters of Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, one of the several killed in the Friday car bombing that ripped through the Beirut neighbourhood of Ashrafieh.
