PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Flood-weary homeowners and sandbaggers across the Midwest are praying for a relenting of rains that have added more water to already swollen rivers blamed for swallowing up neighborhoods, fraying victims' patience along the way.
Even as some of the renegade rivers are showing signs of cresting, the recovery won't be fast or easy. The National Weather Service expects many of the waterways to remain high into next month, straining levees during the river's expectedly slow descent.

Two Tornadoes Confirmed in Louisiana Wednesday

An intense line of storms that moved through the New Orleans metro area around lunchtime damaged homes and ripped trees out of the ground.
The National Weather Service confirmed the storms spawned two tornadoes: An EF-1 in Kenner, La. and an EF-0 in Metairie, La. The Kenner tornado damaged several trees and produced moderate roof damage to several residences. The Metairie tornado downed a tree onto a car, snapped small trees and overturned a large truck.

TANGIER ISLAND, Va. -- One day after Hurricane Sandy lashed this speck of land in the Chesapeake Bay last fall, islander Carol Moore hopped in her skiff and headed to a stretch of beach along The Uppards, one of the islands that comprise this remote outpost. A favorite haunt, Moore collects sea glass, pottery and arrowheads that she finds among the bleached oyster shells that blanket the beach.

The dramatic fireball that exploded over Russia in February got many people wondering if there is any way to anticipate future dazzling meteors before they appear.
Well, meteors not associated with an annual shower are certainly tough to predict. But there are some patterns that skywatchers can keep in mind to maximize their chances of spotting a fireball (which technically is any meteor that shines more brightly than Venus in the sky).

Giant African Snails, which can grow to be eight inches long, can can eat through plaster and stucco (yes, that means your home). They chow down on 500 different types of plants. Even worse - as National Geographic reports - the snails "eat rat feces and contract rat lungworm, which can cause a rare form of meningitis" in humans.

The Lyrid meteor shower was little more than a close call for Larry Beck, whose Wolcott, Conn. house was struck by what appeared to be a baseball-sized rock in the middle of the night, late Friday, April 19. It was originally thought to be a piece of concrete from a runway that was stuck in a plane and then dropped from the sky, according to reports included in a Universe Today story.

These storms originate in unstable air accompanied by a particular type of changing wind direction at various altitudes in the atmosphere; a common combination supportive of supercells is a southerly or southeasterly wind near ground level and a southwesterly or westerly wind higher up in the atmosphere.

Anzac Day will be wet and windy in western Tasmania while the east will see patchy rain developing in the afternoon and evening. A cold front is arriving today bringing gale force winds and heavy showers to the western coast and ranges. Strahan has had a drier than usual April thus far with only 59% of its average rainfall of 117mm. Strahan will join most of the west coast and ranges in gaining 15-30mm today.
Northwesterly winds are increasing this morning up to gale force, before the cold front reaches the west in the middle of the day, bringing a strong westerly change. As the front moves across the state it will bring patchy rain into the east during the afternoon and evening, putting a dampener on the holiday.

Alright. This particular Wesak is extremely potent because it is the first one since the end of the old cycle and it is on a lunar eclipse, then in two weeks a solar eclipse, then another lunar eclipse on the next Full Moon. So within a one-month cycle, three eclipses.
This is a Wesak of major transformation. If you didn’t already do the Wesak celebration that was done live on Earth Day, that is still available on the website, if you want the full journey and meditation.
However in the meantime I’m going to say: change, change and keep changing. It is going to be shifting gears, changing, last minute yoyo kind of thing. So those who like certain patterns, habits, and are not as flexible are going to have a harder time in this cycle.

I found this image on Facebook, so I don't know who the artist is, but I think they have captured the energy that is winding up for the Partial Lunar Eclipse on Thursday.
As we move towards Full Moon in Scorpio, I am sure that most of you can feel this energy already in some way. The Scorpio Full Moon is, in Buddhist tradition, the Wesak Moon that celebrates the Enlightenment of the Buddha, so already there is a powerful "charge" that comes with the annual Scorpio Full Moon. But, this is the first Scorpio Full Moon after the 2012 Transit, and I do feel that this year the energies will be different because we are different. We are in a different Space and Place, and the energies will be felt in a more multi-dimensional and multi-layered way. This may sound obtuse, but let me explain how I feel that these energies are arranging themselves in our New Reality.
Firstly, a Lunar Eclipse is always a time when New Light Codes are installed on the level of the Archetypal Consciousness, allowing for an "upgrade" in the Energy of the Archetypes of the Sixth Dimension that shape our Consciousness and our Reality. Now, it is more than interesting that while the Sun is in Taurus, right now so are Venus and Mars...the planets that resonate with the Divine Feminine Archetype and Divine Masculine Archetype respectively. And, they in turn are opposing the Moon and Saturn in Scorpio. Now that is a powerful set of energies that will be impacting on our Collective Consciousness as well as our Individual Being.

This past week has stirred up an atmosphere of anxiety, uncertainty, aggressive anger and fear…as the planetary energies build up to the coming Scorpio Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on Thursday, April 25th. Adding to the cosmic mix is the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square – the ’2012 Signature’ astrology that spans 2011- 2015. It has been one of the strangest weeks in memory!
We have 3 Eclipses coming this Spring, so we need to be prepared for any sudden changes, revelations, and re-directions as the Eclipse energy swells. Also this past week was the strongest solar flare yet to occur in 2013…captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory on April 11th.

Moderate 5.6 earthquake strikes region of Afghanistan

April 24, 2013 – AFGHANISTAN - A moderate earthquake hit Afghanistan Wednesday and its tremors were felt in Kabul, Islamabad and as far away as New Delhi. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 5.6-magnitude earthquake was 65 kilometers deep and struck 25 kilometers northwest of Jalalabad, the main town in eastern Afghanistan which is close to the Pakistani border. Pakistan’s meteorological office put the magnitude at 6.2. Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, a provincial government spokesman, tells VOA that six people have died and 64 others were injured in the quake and that a large number of structures in Nangahar province have been damaged. Some buildings reportedly swayed in New Delhi, causing a mild panic. Last week a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake killed 41 people in the Baluchistan region of Pakistan, and just a few days later a 6.6-magnitude earthquake killed about 600 people in southeastern China. –VOA NEWS

A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon align. During total lunar eclipses, the entire moon is engulfed in Earth's darkest shadow. But during partial eclipses, the moon never completely goes dark or turns red—only a portion of its disk appears to go dim.

Figure 2. The Arctic Oscillation (AO) is a pattern of varying pressure and winds over the Northern Hemisphere that can strongly influence mid-latitude weather patterns. When the AO is in its positive phase, jet stream winds are strong and the jet stream tends to blow mostly west to east, with low-amplitude waves (troughs and ridges.) Since the jet stream marks the boundary between cold Arctic air to the north and warm subtropical air to the south, cold air stays bottled up in the Arctic. When the AO is in its negative phase, the winds of the jet stream slow down, allowing the jet to take on more wavy pattern with high-amplitude troughs and ridges. High amplitude troughs typically set up over the Eastern U.S. and Western Europe during negative AO episodes, allowing cold air to spill southwards in those regions and create unusally cold weather.
