Bitter cold and snow in the Northeast, Midwest

Absolutely bitter cold is gripping the Northeast and Midwest this week, the likes of which they haven't seen in at least 4 years. High temperatures are running 15 to 30 below normal from New England to the Northern Plains.

A few recent winter weather extremes:

Fulton, NY: 3-day total of 38.0 inches
Phoenix, NY: 3-day total of 36.5 inches
Lacona, NY: 3-day total of 24.8 inches
