The four-day Cheltenham Festival will open tomorrow to the coldest temperatures on record but track officials insist there is not threat to the biggest meeting of the jumps season.

Light flurries of snow at the circuit this morning were accompanied by the unusual sight of both tracks – the Old Course used in the first two days and the New Course for the final two days  - insulated from the cold by giant back covers.
