Long Duration M2.0 Solar Flare (3/4/2012)

Updated 3/4/2012 @ 12:20 UTC
Long Duration M-Class Flare
A long duration M2.0 Solar Flare peaked this morning at 10:45 UTC. The latest blast was again centered around Sunspot 1429 located in the northeast quadrant. A 46 minute long 10cm Radio Burst, also known as a TenFlare, was recorded as well and measured 750 pfu. A type IV Sweep Frequency Event resulted. Sometimes Long Duration flares can produce bright Coronal Mass Ejections. Stay Tuned to SolarHam.com for the latest information.
ALERT: Type IV Radio Emission
Begin Time: 2012 Mar 04 1040 UTC
Description: Type IV emissions occur in association with major eruptions on the sun and are typically associated with strong coronal mass ejections and solar radiation storms.
SUMMARY: 10cm Radio Burst
Begin Time: 2012 Mar 04 1126 UTC
Maximum Time: 2012 Mar 04 1135 UTC
End Time: 2012 Mar 04 1212 UTC
Duration: 46 minutes
Peak Flux: 750 sfu
Description: A 10cm radio burst indicates that the electromagnetic burst associated with a solar flare at the 10cm wavelength was double or greater than the initial 10cm radio background. This can be indicative of significant radio noise in association with a solar flare. This noise is generally short-lived but can cause interference for sensitive receivers including radar, GPS, and satellite communications.
Soalr Flare Risk: M-Class 55% X-Class 05%
Rapidly Developing Solar Activity.
BIG SUNSPOT: A sunspot almost four times as wide as Earth itself is rotating onto the solar disk. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded its entrance on March 2nd and 3rd; click to view a 24-hour animation:

NASA sees tropical storm Irina hit by wind shear, headed for Mozambique
NASA's Aqua satellite's MODIS instrument captured this infrared image of Tropical Cyclone Irina now over the Mozambique Channel on March 2, 2012 at 1041 UTC (5:41 am EST). Irina is almost half-way to Mozambique, where it is expected to make landfall early on March 5, 2012. Credit: Credit: NASA Goddard MODIS Rapid Response Team
The AIRS instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite provided forecasters with an infrared look at what was happening "under the hood" of Tropical Storm Irina's clouds and saw two reasons why it temporarily weakened before moving into the Mozambique Channel and heading for landfall in Mozambique in a couple of days.

Spain wilts in driest winter for 70 years
March 4, 2012 by Gabriel Rubio
Photo taken on March 1 shows the Portodemouros reservoir's low level of water due a prolonged drought. February is barely past but already Spanish farmers are on drought alert as reservoirs shrink, crops wilt and brush fires crackle after the country's driest winter in 70 years.

Portugal suffers through its worst drought in 80 years
Posted on March 4, 2012 by The Extinction Protocol
March 4, 2012 – PORTUGAL – After Portugal’s driest February in 80 years, farmers are praying for a miracle as drought ravages pastures and sparks forest fires, exacerbating the country’s economic crisis. Worse still, official forecasters expect the freak weather pattern to prevail at least through the end of March, which would worsen a drought now classified as severe and extreme throughout mainland Portugal. –Reuters

An amazing event: snowfall in Nicosia, Crete
A short clip I made to commemorate the extraordinary event of SNOW in the Capital of Cyprus Nicosia. This does not occur very often. Probably once every 10 to 15 years. However today is even MORE SPECIAL due to the fact that today is the day of the leap year which occurs ONCE every four years (29th February 2012)
Heavy snow falls in Jerusalem for the first time in four years
Posted on March 3, 2012 by The Extinction Protocol
March 3, 2012 – ISRAEL – Heavy snow fell in the Jerusalem area on Friday, and for the first time in four years, parts of Jerusalem were white with snow. Snow fell in Ramot, Givat Ze’ev and Har Gilo, and three centimeters of snow fall were reported. The Jerusalem municipality, which had prepared for the weather conditions in recent days, was due to clear snow from the streets of Jerusalem on Friday. Snow also fell in the Golan Heights in the early hours of Friday morning, and classes were canceled in the Golan and in the area around Safad because of the weather. Safad area residents were also asked not to drive by the municipality, and there was no public transport in the area. Cold and stormy weather swept through Israel since Tuesday, and Friday was expected to be the coldest day of the year. –Haaretz

Strong 6.6 magnitude quake hits New Caledonia, no tsunami alert
Posted on March 3, 2012 by The Extinction Protocol
March 3, 2012 – AUSTRALIA – A strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit south-east of the Loyalty Islands in the French Pacific territory of New Caledonia late Saturday but there was no tsunami alert, seismologists said. The quake struck 260 kilometres east-southeast of the town of Tadine on the island of Mare at 11:19 pm (local time) at a relatively shallow depth of 15 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. There was no threat of a widespread destructive tsunami from the tremor, which hit about 400 kilometres east of the New Caledonian capital Noumea. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the sparsely populated and remote Loyalty Islands. New Caledonia lies on the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire,” a zone of frequent seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates. –ABC News
