Happiness: Right Here, Right Now

I have an exercise we can try at random times throughout the day.

No matter what we’re doing, let’s stop, look around, and give thanks for our existence. Even if our day’s stressful and we just can’t seem to catch a break, let’s be grateful for something. Let’s find something to appreciate, because it could bring down our stress level and encourage us to get back out there with more strength.

Most people are too rushed to stop and appreciate life, but if we could understand the significance of this moment, we’d see that it holds all of the happiness we need. We can find a banquet of happiness and contentment simply by enjoying the Now, and if we’re willing to quiet the mind, we can even tap into the intuition and learn a thing or two about life.

We don’t even have to do anything. We just need to be, and we’ll notice a positive change when we give ourselves more time to relax, meditate and just exist. We’ll learn that we can enjoy life regardless of our circumstances, and we don’t have to seek happiness in external things. We can be unconditionally happy, but we have to empty out our physical desires and learn to be content with this moment, no matter what it has in store.

Most of our unhappiness is caused by our inability to stop and appreciate what’s happening right now, and this humble little adjustment to our life will enhance our joy and appreciation for the experiences we’re blessed with each day. We won’t stop working hard or striving to make the world a better place, but we’ll understand that we don’t have to do everything. We only need to do our part and let others do theirs, and there will be plenty of time to relax and connect with the silence.

True happiness is found in the emptiness of our higher consciousness, and we’ll continue to struggle with a mind that won’t stop running if we don’t clear it out and explore the silence. Life will continue to seem like an uphill climb, because we’ll continue to enforce the illusion that we’re separate from our higher consciousness. We’ve never been separate, but we’ve convinced ourselves we are as we traveled through life with no understanding of the guiding force that wants to help us.

It’s time to stop thinking we’re disconnected from it, and it’s time to stop thinking we can’t be happy. We control our happiness, and in my view, the best way to find it is to stop searching for it and let it become naturally evident as we joyfully express it to others.

We can bring it up from within, but it requires us to surrender that negative part of ourselves that never has anything positive or constructive to offer. It’ll fight with all of its might to keep us from bringing our love up to the surface, and the secret to getting rid of it is to stop feeding it.

It really is this easy, and it’ll get easier when we take time to sit in silence.

True joy and contentment are here for the taking, and all we really have to do is reach out and grab them. Nothing could be simpler, and yet, for most of the world, nothing could be more difficult. I think we can do it, but we each have to make an effort before the rest of the world can catch up and finally tap into the constant contentment this moment of Now has to offer.
