I was shocked to find out what they did to fruit trees. While I appreciate the farmers need to keep their trees healthy, this is not the way to do it. Please take a moment to read the blurb and sign the petition to keep our food supply safe!
What's "Organic" Without Strong Standards?
Take Action to Keep Antibiotics Off of Organic Apple and Pear Trees!
Is That Really Organic?
Sign the petition to say NO to antibiotics in
fruit trees!
Dear Carolin,
There's a reason why many consumers like to purchase fruit with an organic label on it: these foods are supposed to be healthier, tastier and free of nasty chemicals and antibiotics.
Unfortunately, the National Organic Standards Board is considering a rule that would make organics less... well, organic. The rule would allow the continued use of an antibiotic called streptomycin on organic apple and pear trees until 2017. Will you sign our petition to say NO to antibiotics in organic fruit?
Even small amounts of antibiotics in fruit production contribute to the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, also known as "super bugs," that are creating an enormous human health threat around the world. Sign our petition to protect your health and keep organics strong.
In April, activists like you helped to tighten up the standards for organic food by telling the National Organic Standards Board not to extend the use of an antibiotic called tetracycline on apple and pear trees. And it worked — that antibiotic is now being discontinued! But now, with a proposal on the table to extend the use of yet another antibiotic in organic fruit trees, we need to take action to get antibiotics out of organics for good.
Stand with us in support of strong organic standards today:
