Lee-Anne Peters – Are Worries Ruling Your Life? – 18 April 2012

Are your worries increasing? Perhaps your challenges are getting harder? Is it harder to be happier within your life? Oh yeah, I am hearing these sorts of concerns from people every single day, and you know really these concerns create a downward spiral that can set up horrible days full of unhappiness!

Years ago I heard a quote that has stuck with me and every now and then I remind myself of it, and that is ‘It is a waste of energy to worry!’ Through my experience I have found this to be the case – worrying about something that may or may not happen is not only a waste of energy, but also a waste of our time. I know for me, I don’t intend on wasting one moment – so worrying is not welcome in my life!

From time to time when I get into that space of concern, where my mind is going at it and everything seems worse than what it really is I quickly step back! Because I am pretty aware of what is going on in my mind, body and emotions I can recognise when worry starts to creep in – and creep in it does! I don’t allow it to play games with me, so I take action to release these concerns and move on. If you let them in, the worries will build and escalate, and then will ultimately draw more energy from your body to feed them. Then, you know what happens, we become exhausted and tired no matter how much sleep we have.

The good news is that you haven’t set yourself up for a prison sentence – unless you CHOOSE it to take over your life. YOU can throw away those worries, let go of your stresses and step back into the flow and ease of your life!

Here are my top three tips to help you let go of worry:

  1. AWARENESS – Becoming aware of what you are thinking is ESSENTIAL! You will never really know what you are thinking and how it affects you if you aren’t aware. So my biggest suggestion for you if you are burdened with worry right now is to LISTEN and be aware of what you are thinking. It will take a few weeks to get into full recognition, and during that time you may be confronted with hidden truths about what is really going on in your mind, but it will be so worth it. When you become aware of something that isn’t working, then you can take steps to change it. If you don’t know, you can’t change it!
  2. THROW IT OUT – Are you awake all night worrying? Tell your mind who’s boss and start imagining throwing out those worries. Visualise an arm that you control grabbing those worries like a ball and throwing them as far as you can. If they come back – keep throwing them out. Be persistent, committed and determined to get back in charge of your mind thoughts. To worry is not being in charge – to worry is to let your mind control you
  3. GET ON WITH IT – Let go of victim and step into victor! Do your best not to wait for others to fix you and remove your worries, there is only one person who can do that, and that is you. It’s time to step up and take responsibility for your actions – learn your lessons from the past and use that experience to guide you in the future.

There is so much power and energy in NOW. It can be so easy to say that ‘I’ll do it next week, or next year’ but really how much help is that? There is no time like now – so step up, take your power back and be a living and breathing example of happiness! I know you can do it!
