If you have ever wondered about tomorrow, about what is happening now to this planet Earth, or about how the future may differ from today, this book, "Letters from 500," is for you. In its pages you will find a description of the times you are living in—from the vantage point of 500 years beyond.

Humanity is passing through the severest test of its entire lifetime on Earth. It is the ultimate test of evolutionary fitness for survival. The defining attribute of Homo sapiens was the ego. It brought forth extraordinary developments during its tenure. But its time is over. This experiment of evolution has come to an end.

How is this possible? It happens through the awakening of evolution itself, through a transmutation at the genetic level of your species. Evolution is becoming conscious in you. The time has come for a change.

The story of these Letters from 500 is startling, yet abundantly affirming and hopeful. It tells how humanity finds freedom, and how transformations already underway are leading into a new world—and a new species.

To fully understand the means by which our species transmutes into the next level of evolution it is important to read the following Letter from"O" to Robert. It is perhaps the cornerstone of this entire journey. Once you understand the nature of Conscious Evolution you will sense the process taking place within your own being. Once you sense this process you are tied to it, and once you are tied to it you will begin to feel consciousness expanding from the very depths of your soul. This new journey becomes your own.

Stop where you are in your mind, right now. Listen to the energy that is coming in with this vision. Go behind it. Convert your awareness now, using a very specific intention. Instead of seeing the images, listen to them. Go down to the sensation beneath both seeing and hearing.

“Sorry, I can’t hold it back anymore. What I’m sensing is very large… vast in fact. It’s the size of the whole solar system. No, make that the whole galaxy. I don’t know why I’m saying this. It sounds crazy. But I’m feeling that sensation you suggested, way down below. That’s where these visions are coming from. That’s where the leak is. There’s an opening of some kind down there. I’m sensing a contradiction: The opening is in complete darkness, but it’s generating light. Am I making any sense?”

Absolutely. Stay with the sensation and tell me everything you hear and see.

“OK. It’s like I’m sensing molecules in my own body. I’m hearing them, literally, crashing into each other’s force fields. The vibrations of these impacts are synchronizing, merging, and carrying a message upward and out to my ears and eyes. The impression is rising and expanding out into the world. That’s the channel you are using to communicate with me. Wow! I get it. I actually sense it. Is this what you’re doing? Is this news to you?”

Yes and no. I understand the mechanics of this communication. But I certainly did not think you would be able to register at that level. You’re going much deeper than I would have expected.

“Now the impulse is beyond the world, out into space. It’s like I’m getting bigger along with the radiating vibration. I’m flying out through the galaxy. It’s all crystal clear. I’m seeing every planet, star and nebula in precise detail. The message is going out there, everywhere, all at once, in one timeless moment. There is complete stillness. And yet, it is all expanding, evolving, changing.

“Oh! Now it’s all getting very chaotic, agitated. I’m seeing stars erupting, exploding, wheeling through space, crashing into each other. Fire and searing bright light everywhere. Suddenly there’s an ominous blackness. The stars are all gone. What happened to them? I’m feeling a deep, unrelenting fear building up, pounding on my senses. It’s coming at me with infinite force, sucking me into it. Irresistible! I can’t imagine such a thing. This is horrible! I’ve got to… whew. The vision is fading. I’m losing it now, thank God. There is nothing coming through ... only the root sensation. What does this mean?”

It means, my dear friend, that you have found your place in our work. There is destiny afoot here. Conscious Evolution has shown you the path of this project, what your role might be. It has shown you some of the microscopic and macroscopic mechanics of what we are using here.

“I’m not sure what you’re getting at. That was a very vivid thing I just witnessed. What was that fear, that darkness?”

It was the breach that must be crossed between where your species is and where mine lives. You are now passing into it, for better or for worse.

“I’m not sure I like the sound of that! Like I have no choice? What do you mean by my destiny and role?”

I cannot say more about it at this time. I only have suspicions.

“Well I’m feeling a good deal more suspicious myself right now.”

We, you and I and the others involved in this project, are playing with high stakes. We have attracted the attention of Conscious Evolution itself. I am beginning to see. I might be tempted to say I’m sorry for bringing you into this, except I know now it is way beyond me. It is your destiny.

“What is this Conscious Evolution up to? Does it meddle in our individual lives? Does it actually think and plan out events?”

Not in the way that a mind would work, to solve problems or scheme about the future. No. Its ways—the ways of manas—are much more advanced than any of us can hope to understand. After all, it’s been evolving its form of intelligence since the birth of the Cosmos. Any Earthly mind is too limited to comprehend the scope of such a vast and delicate process. In grand evolution, the intelligence is built into the substance of creation itself. This is what many have called God, without knowing the half of it.

During the Great Storm that lies in the dark gulf between you and me, destiny rose up rampant. Conscious Evolution offered up a great event that shook the foundations of our world. The ruling species—humanity—had to be replaced. The pressure from within evolution moved mutation forward. Survival was the need at hand. As Darwin saw, the survival instinct was always Life’s most active tool of progression.

“Is there a grand plan behind all this then?”

Conscious Evolution does not think or plan or design. It does not use intellect, except through very localized phenomena, such as our own minds. Rather, it works organically, within the intelligent essence of Life, giving impetus to creation. While it is impersonal, it is also profoundly intimate.

This is not satisfying to the mind that wants to have targeted, personalized outcomes. The intellect seeks guidance from without, notfrom within. It tends to look outside itself for support, reinforcement and again, defense. Nature is pragmatic and direct. It always looks within to SourceIt needs no plans to achieve its destiny.

“What do you mean by destiny? Doesn’t that imply a goal in the future—a plan?”

Destiny lies only in the immediate moment. It is the beginning and the end of all things, and everything in between. It is the essence of authenticity and the truth of our being. Destiny is what guides us through life and provides the resonance to know who we are, why we’re here. To act in accordance with destiny is to be God in action.

“That’s a powerful statement. But is there anything we can do to change our destiny if we need to? Can humanity change itself somehow? What influence, if any, do we individuals or species have in this process?”

In the stream of evolution proper, we contribute experiences during our lifetimes, nothing more. The nature of Conscious Evolutionis not democratic. There is no deliberative process. There is only the intermingling of data, impressions and consequences from endless universal experiences. From that, change—evolution—then arises directly out of the collective essence.

As I have said, some would call Conscious Evolution, God. It moves according to its own being. The intelligence that functions within it, is actually much closer to what you know as instinct than it is intellect. At the same time, it is super-conscious. It is intimately aware of all things at all times—and beyond time—simply because it is exactly all those things. This includes every form of consciousness and every form of creation there is. It is also directly linked to the formlessness behind all forms, the Source.

The entity of Conscious Evolution entails all the highest principles that have evolved thus far anywhere in the Cosmos. Humans, looking at this so-called being at different times in their history, have labeled it many things, depending on their state of awareness. Humanity created whatever God it could imagine at any given epoch; you created God with your own label, in your own image.

“Why could that God decide to un-create the human species then—as you’re saying Conscious Evolution did?”

The God you are referring to never existed, except in the minds of men. That God was merely the latest projection, a mental attempt to apprehend the unknown. The deep essence—the formless Source of creation—took little notice of these ideas of God. They were purely subordinate, passing forms within the greater creation. Evolution moved on at its own pace, taking it all in stride.

In your time, serious mutations began to appear quietly to challenge the status quo. These had a new and conscious force behind them, however, rising up from the deepest wells of Cosmic being. Something very powerful was stirring. Many mutated forms, unheralded, came and went in a very short time period. Some of these genetic alterations were even more aggressive and ego-dominant than normal humans, believe it or not.

They flourished during the time when ‘all hell’ was breaking loose on Earth—the Great Storm. They went on the rampage within the human world at all levels. They captured control of governments and other organizations. They dominated decaying urban centers, in terror cells in remote regions, within religious movements and political parties. They swayed the masses from one side to the other and back again. The mounting turmoil built up and up. And the Storm rose to full fury.

At the same time, other mutations were occurring rapidly as well. Some of these possessed diminished egos, or none at all. However, most of these failed miserably because they had few resources. Even if these mutations had succeeded somehow, they would have left a species with little drive to excel. But the aggressive mutations also eventually failed because they were not species-sustaining. They fell under their own weight and self-destructive nature. The one thing an ego cannot defend against is itself! Not until an adaptation arrived offering both strength and ego-freedom, did the hope for survival come. This genome shift, on the other hand, was so radical that it could no longer be classified as homo sapiens.

Finally, evolution had found a new form of sentient being—one that would not seek to survive at the expense of its own species. That adaptation lay in the appreciative mind. This entails an intellect melded with instinctual and intuitive sensitivities, innately aware of the intelligent fabric of the Cosmos, oriented toward Source as self.

“Did humanity ever have any choice in the matter? Might we have taken a different path?”

The choice for homo sapiens was to adapt or die. Humans liked to think the future was ultimately going to be under their control, that they would be able to choose their means of survival. Even ‘enlightened’ humans tended to believe that if people would choose to reform themselves they could be saved. In reality choice had little to do with it. While planners and prophets of your time were anguishing, and doing their utmost to save the species, silent evolution was taking its course. The tipping point was reached. Something had to give. Something had to die.

Evolution does not ever happen without death. Death is an essential instrument in the unfolding of Life. Out of it, new forms are conceived. These forms emerge, develop for a time, flourish, and then vanish away. In the world of duality, birth can only exist as long as death is guaranteed. For example, only when the first single-celled creatures of our Earth finally learned how to die did physical evolution actually begin.

Without death there would be no physical form as we know it, no human beings, no animals or plants, no Earth or universe. Death is difficult to face for the finite mind and ego. It threatens identity and the continuity of self. From the personal perspective, it seems to deny us everything we hold dear. It is the Grim Reaper. Yet from a deeper awareness, it is the Great Redeemer. When it closes in upon us, we open up to true being; when death descends, we rise up in consciousness. All creations rise on the shoulders of Death.

“Nice metaphors, but this is a bit morbid! Can we lighten up a little? Death is part of it all, I know. Life can be deadly in many ways. But the world also has its beautiful and noble qualities. Humanity has accomplished great things. You yourself pointed out that we attained genius. There are many good and wonderful people, doing unselfish things everywhere in the world, living quiet lives of service to others. How can this be bad?”

It is not bad at all. These acts of service to others were the seeds of my species. Without these, I indeed would not have evolved. But what I’m telling you is intended to lay the groundwork for your understanding of what happened. I am not condemning humanity at all. I am praising it. Without the development of the ego, without the suffering in your world, the seeds of peace and altruism would never have germinated. From the darkest mud grew the most brilliant lotus flower. Death is a touchy subject, it would seem. But it is an unavoidable reality within our duality systems.

There is no wasted situation in the time-space continuum. Nothing is ever lost. Universal Life learns from each tiny occurrence, in every life form. It learns its lessons well. That is because no thing is ever separate from any other thing in reality. That which holds all forms together is the Source of pure consciousness—the Source of all things. Out of this matrix comes evolution’s trial-and-error, life and death learning.

To say a bit more on behalf of humanity, you prided yourself in being humane. It was the genius of your species to give its own name to the qualities it revered most—altruism, mercy, caring, healing, benevolence. Over the millennia these humane qualities were exemplified in many people, when their egos were less active. A few individuals, in the course of history, awakened to embody the full potential of them. These were your saints and enlightened ones. They were the forerunners of my species. They were building within their DNA the requisites for the genetic shift.

Throughout the course of human ascension, the driving force was duality. It generated a powerful creative tension—the self versus all others, the rich versus the poor, winners versus losers. Your nation’s ideal of e pluribus unum, ‘one out of many’ was a bridge across this tension. But predominantly for you, oneness remained only an ideal. It was rarely realized in truth or put into actual practice. When the communist or dictatorial nations of your time attempted it, they invariably took the side of the state against the individual, which is not the principle of oneness. On the other hand, when libertarian or socialistic societies tried it, they often achieved the opposite, self against the state.

A gradual form of evolution into higher principles and qualities might have sufficed for your survival, except for one overarching factor—the enormous population pressure that had built up. The result was pressure and tension simultaneously. With such a large number of egos vying for separate survival, the stress became too much.

The body of humanity was stressed beyond its limits, and the mutations were unleashed. All the old, stressed systems still pushed on unabated throughout your world. The psychological strain on humanity entered the physical realm, right down to the cells and molecules.

Then time ran out on homo sapiensConscious Evolution made its own move—without consulting the participants. There is rarely an appeal process in evolution. The outcome might have been different. Nature might have allowed utter destruction, followed by a return to some re-evolution. It might have been a continuation of the old humanity with a much smaller population that would have had to start over again. Or the shift might hypothetically have been a mere slight adjustment, leading to further experimentation in the mind-ego approach. But, in the end, the stakes were too high. The pressures to evolve or die were too intense.

Your species died. And mine was born.
