A poem shared with Love <3

Rebecca N.'s picture

A poem adapted from Black Elk's Great Vision:

a day of happiness

Sending a voice for people in despair
may the six grandfathers nourish the little root
of the sacred tree that still lives
in sorrow a feeble voice
may never call again,
"Make the people live!"
standing on the highest mountain of all
and round about beneath
the whole world
you will see more than you can tell and will understand more than you see
the shapes of things in the spirit
the sacred hoop of your people is one of many hoops that make
one circle
holy
With visible face appear
in a sacred manner appear
For the greening earth a pleasantness make
The center of the nation's hoop make pleasant.
With visible face, let us behold you!
The four-leggeds, the two-leggeds, they walk;
The wings of the air, they fly.
With visible face appear.
Your day, make it holy.

adapted from Black Elk's Great Vision.
And he was told by the oldest Grandfather: "it shall happen yonder that hundreds shall be sacred,
hundreds shall be flames! Behold!"
