Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan, has sacked the managing director and several other executives of the state oil company, NNPC.

A statement said the action had been taken in the interests of "greater transparency and accountability".

Nigeria is one of the world's biggest oil producers, but the sector is widely seen as being plagued by corruption.

A recent report by legislators found $6.8bn (£4bn) had been lost to fraud in the past two years.

'Strengthening reforms'

The fuel sector probe was set up in the wake of angry nationwide protests in January after the government tried to remove a fuel subsidy.

Oil accounts for some 80% of Nigeria's state revenues but it has hardly any capacity to refine crude oil into fuel, which has to be imported.

The government subsidises the cost of fuel and had said this cost the country $8bn in 2011.

i,,probably like everyone who visits gfp every day,,only want the light and love  to reach all as soon as possible,,but this story is a no brainer,,,goodluck johnathan and his goverment and civil servants are just another organised crime outfit,,,,and i dont feel this is a good story,,it just reminds me of there ongoing crimes....he sacked the M.D and several senior executives.....this is from the man and all his his gang menbers who all cheat the people of nigeria,,,i remember seeing one of them boasting that he does his shopping in milan.and he had tens of thousands of dollars worth of cloathes and shoes, when ther were people less than 100 metres away suffering and struggling..... this for me is essentially a good P.R.SPIN story for goodluck and his criminal network....there will be no justice served while goodluck and his crew are in charge,,,and i was a little bit dissapointed to see this story posted on gfp....this is the kinda SPIN i would expect from the nigerian goverment spin machine,,,

yes i send goodluck and his crew light and love and hope they step into the light,,,but until then,,because this story is defo not a sign of that,,until then i remain in wonder as to why your giving such men and there machines such coverage from a story that is fake...and has no meaning to th people..
