At least two schools in the south - one a daycare, the other a middle school - are among the buildings damaged by severe weather Tuesday.

Photos show damage to Columbiana Middle School in Shelby County, Ala. The National Weather Service office in Birmingham says damaging winds around 70 to 80 m.p.h. tore large chunks of the roof off the school. Two classrooms were also damaged.

The high winds also tore into communities in northern Georgia. At least ten homes and a daycare were damaged near an outlet mall in Gordon County, Ga., according to the National Weather Service. Local media reports 5 to 6 kids hid in the basement of the daycare, but no one was injured.
