UK Monitors "Toddlers" for Extremism

CAIRO – A new counter-terrorism measure that requires UK nursery staff and childminders to report toddles at risk of becoming terrorists has been criticized by officials and rights activists, who deemed it “unworkable” and “heavy-handed”.

“It is hard to see how this can be implemented. It is unworkable. I have to say I cannot understand what they [nursery staff] are expected to do,” David Davis, the Conservative MP and former shadow home secretary, told The Telegraph on Sunday, January 4.

“Are they supposed to report some toddler who comes in praising a preacher deemed to be extreme? I don’t think so. It is heavy-handed.”

Under the new Home Office measure, which comes as a part of the proposed Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill, nursery school staff and registered childminders will be given duty to inform on toddlers with extremist views.
