A very strong earthquake measuring M7.3 (Geoscience Australia) on the Richter scale was registered in Molucca Sea, Indonesia on November 15, 2014 at 02:31 UTC. USGS initially reported M7.3 at depth of 35 km (21.7 miles) but later downgraded to M7.1. Geoscience Australia is also reporting depth of 35 km. EMSC is reporting M7.2 at depth of 52 km.
Numerous aftershocks were reported in the region. Tsunami advisories were issued for Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Solomon Islands and other areas but were later dropped. (PTWC's final advisory)
