Fukutoku-Okanoba eruption in February, 2010.
A new submarine eruption was observed from Fukutoku-Okanoba volcano in the Volcano Islands of Japan on Tuesday morning, October 16th. Japanese Coast Guard observed a column of white smoke rising from the sea about 3 miles from Minami-Iwoto island. According to a report "the volcano spewed ash and smoke about 100 meters into the air, and the surrounding sea area changed to a yellowish-green color while other parts became a cloudy gray".
The number of explosions of Popocatépetl volcano in Mexico has been increasing further. During 15-16 Oct, 71 were recorded by CENAPRED. Some of these produced ash plumes rising up to 1.5 km above the crater, notably at 18:05 h local time on 15 Oct, 04:39 h and 09:43 h on 16 Oct.
Glow is visible above the crater at night, and a SO2 plume is visible regularly on NOAA's satellite images.
Activity from Fuego volcano in Guatemala remains mainly effusive with an active 600 m long lava flow and only occasional weak strombolian explosions.
The lava flows from Santiaguito were reported to be inactive this morning. A small steam explosion occurred this morning, INSIVUMEH reported.
