A snowy April from the Rockies and Plains into the Upper Midwest pushed us through the last four names on our list of winter storm names this season.
Now we are flipping the calendar to May and we still can't remove the "S" word (snow) from our vocabulary just yet. Given the rarity of significant May snow, particularly in parts of the Midwest, we've decided to start again at the top of the alphabet and name this latest snowmaker Winter Storm Achilles. Snowfall totals will not be as great as for mid-winter named storms, but the seasonality of this event warrants naming.
